| Being old , fat and out of shape , I desided to take a small trip to a stream about 40 miles and walk the banks. Fishing my heavy flipping stik and maybe pick up a walleye or maybe a musky, I started out throwing a Bagley Monster Shad with no luck, then I threw a few different crankbaits, same deal, and then started throwing a willow leaf baby Harresser with a gold blade and orange tail. Third cast , BLAM!!! saw it comming at about 40 feet away and just like the rookie that I am, jerked it away when I saw him roll on it instead of waiting till I felt him. First fish of the year and I blow it like this!!!! I was really pi**ed at myself. Couldn't get the fish to show himself again so I headed upstream , fished for about 20-30 minutes and switched to a 3/8 oz. bass jig with the largest Banjo Minnow that comes in a kit [kid got for me about 4 years ago]as a trailer. First cast to the rock where I raised the musky 45 minutes earlier, I felt the bait stop and a slight tug. I set the hook and about 5 minutes later , I landed my first of the year, 32" . I know it's small from where a lot of you fish where 40" fish are the norm , but it sure felt good feeling that old feeling of man vs.fish once again.
