That's one of the problems with fishermen in general trying to diagnose problems encountered well fishing. We really aren't sure what it is we are looking at, and what we think could be lymphosarcoma is nothing but a gash left from swimming into a rock. This diagnoses is best left to fishery pathologists.

The other problem is one that I hope at least some Fishery Biologists are thinking about, and that's what to do about a disease problem in a fishery after it's correctly diagnosed. As far as I've ever read or heard about there is little that has ever been done to try to control or prevent any type of disease problem that fish happen to suffer from in a natural lake or river. As far as I know there is very little that can be done for a lake or river that has some sort of epidemic except let the disease run it's course, and if it kills or greatly reduces the population to restock the lake.

Even hatcheries (which have high concentrations of fish in close quarters), don't do much except disinfect, and hope for better luck next year.

As far as I know there is no treatment for any fish disease, except to wait till it runs it's course.

Perhaps this is something that needs to be studied and worked on as we head into the 21st century as our lakes and rivers become more heavily used.

So what is it....a scar or disease. If I remember right the wound was old but still looked nasty and kinda infected.

Jason:

I really don't know, I've seen all kinds of different looking wounds on muskies, some look pretty gruesome, but whether or not they are lymphrosarcoma or not would only be speculation.
