| My Dad used to take me to some remote lakes north of souix lookout Ca.
This was a great way to get the bug for chasing top of the line preditors. |
| |
| I'm 15 and I just started last year. I fish out of carlton in Illinois and have caught and released 4 muskies. This year will be fishing out of a 18 foot flatboat. Nothing fancy but it will get the job done. |
| |
| The only possible thing I can think about starting early is, is that you can't always get around where you want to. Its hard to get to other lakes that aren't your home lakes. |

| Hey Jason,
Is that a picture of little Jase with a nice gator?
He's even got the fillet knife in his back pocket![:0]
All my time fishing as a kid was spent from shore catching mostly cat's and carp, didn't have a boat!![:blackeye:] |
| |
| Check out the spec's on the dude?[:sun:] They're huge. I might have to send this pic to Letterman!!
I miss those mesh hats. Nice pike, Jason. I'm sure the knife was for the stringer of 'eyes just outside of camera range, right? LOL
Shep[] |
| |
| Shep,
Nope!!!,, the knife was for steaking out the beasts. Back then no ever thought twice. Thank god good release efferts on large pike have become a popular thing to do. The new regs in Canada are great for producing large gaters also. |

| Loved the Drew Carey glasses Jason.LOL If I would be able to throw a few pics up here you'd be laughing at me too. God where did the time go.
Later

| Here's a gator we kept when I was 10 or 11. And the musky here is my first legal when I was 16. I kept the fish on the lure in the water while my brother ran accross the road to get a camera(since that catch 12 years ago, I've learned to keep a camera with me). |
| |
| try again |
| |
| As soon as the wife re-hooks up my scanner I'll try to put one up from '67....dorky but what the hay...who wasn't when they were 14!?[:sun:] |
| |
| wow 14 in 67 spongie??? I wasn't even a ...um...well I wasn't around for another 7 years in 67! You must have your aarp card or something. |
| |
| Its a good thing I turned 15 a Few months ago sponge or I would be taking that as an insult to me[] [:p] |
| |
| Nice glasses! |
| |
| I thought it was a young Harry Carey! "Take Me Out To The Ball Game......"
LOL |
| |
| Ok..I know my glasses were big!!. And to think my folks made me were them until I was 15. Well by then, they did fit me. See my MAW always said, "If you buy them big, you will grow into them".
You should have seen my pants!!![:blackeye:] |
| |
| lol were your pants as big as your glasses? [:sun:] |
| |
| Nowadays, your large pants would fit right in. Of course that's if you wore them down around your knees. The question is are they "Square Pants"??
Spongee any comments?

| When it comes to big pike, I am still a kid. I would rather taks a 45" pike than a 50" muskie any day. One of my lifetime goals is a pike over 30#! Mid 20's is the best I have done so far, without a single fly in.[;)] Hey Sponge.. in '67 I was 15. As of March 30th, I am one half of a century old. That begins a new part of my life; I was an old 'young' guy. At 50, one becomes a young 'old' guy. If Clarence Kalkofen can hunt deer with me at 93, then I can fish muskies at 90.
Like my grandfather used to say..
" Get the #XX#**! out of my way, KID!!"[:0] |
| |
| Lol Scott! I sent or tried to send Jason a pic to put in here taken in '67 of me as a beginning "teener" w/ a nice pickerel I caught but not sure if he got it back yet...the first one I sent came back...my only miniature musky pic is lost here in the house somewhere. If I get time I'll pull a recon for it....not even sure if I had pants on![;)] [:sun:] |
| |
| Last attempt to do this...'67 pre-"woodstock" pickerel[:sun:] |
| |
| ???!!![:(] |
| |
| Is that you sponge? |
| |
| Indeed it is my young friend....the "Pied Piper" of pickerel![;)] It was taken in '67 or '68...a LONG time ago...I rarely fish for them any more but did catch a big one last spring; the first one in many yrs...[:sun:] |

| I fished for muskies all the time as a kid at the cabin. Most of my time was spent fishing alone so not many pictures, but occasionally I caught a fish right in front of the cabin and brought it to shore for a quick photo before letting her go. Here is one I caught in the late afternoon. |
| |
| Water skiing through the weedbed in front of the cabin always seemed to stir up the skis. Here is one I caught while taking a break from the salom run. If I remember correctly, she ate an all black Suick with the design where the hooks would pull free from the lure. |
| |
| I'd even sneak out during the fall "work weekend" and catch a few. Man I loved that wool coat! |
| |
| I even had time as a kid to fish for bass, walleye, and pike!!!! What happened???? |
| |
| And folks thought my photos were funny....LOL
Great pics LONG.[] |
| |
| Here is a picture of me with my FIRST fishing pole. Man was I happy!!!! |
| |
| I got some help from Dad to catch this one.... but this is what started it all!!!! |
| |
| While all the family and relatives were in the cabin eating lunch.... I went out by myself and caught my first legal!!!! I had braggin' rights that day!! |
| |
| Now this is what you call "Fishing for Bait"!! |
| |
| I should have called this sigment "The wonder years".
[;)] [:praise:] [:)] [] |
