| I was just curious now that fall fishing has heated up and deer season has started to take off, what would you rather have a shot at, a 50" slob or a Boone&Crockett Wall hanger...????? |

Location: Minnesota | Easy for me now. I would take the 50" muskie. My first buck was a B&C along with two other small ones in about 10 seconds. Would be great if you could take a 50" muskie and two 40"s all in a few minutes or less. Need to teach my foot how to reel though Still hunting for that 50" muskie. Will be out this afternoon and into the night on my local lake. See if I can get that 55"er to take a bite out of my Grunt.

| I would take the 50 inch muskie over the Boone and Crockett. But I would take a 170 class poe and young over the 50 inch muskie. Something about bow hunting is twice as good as gun hunting.

| Nice bucks there grunt...!!!!!!!!!!! I think i would have to take the B&C....nothing like a great RACK to get your heart going...!!!!!!!! |

| Well I have taken both. Now a net booner is a lot more difficult then gross boon.
I would take another booner over any 50"er.

Location: north central wisconsin | It is really location, but I would go with that which is more difficult to cme by for me. Since I have no B&C bucks to my credit, I dream of getting one. I know my chances of catching a 50" Musky are much higher than getting a B&C buck, as I fish waters regularily that 50"ers do show themselves on. I have the same quest for big fish that I have always had, but now that my friend sold his Illinois farm, and I will never have access there again, a true shot at a booner is much more rare. I hunt some very nice land, but the best our group has ever done was one deer in the 150 class and a few in the high 130" range. A booner where I hunt would be a huge surprise and more of a pleasant one than a 50"er where I fish if that makes any sense...

| A Booner without a doubt. While I have never caught a 50" I know that if I put my time in I could catch one in a couple years but you could hunt a lifetime on great property without ever seeing, much less shooting, a Booner. Plus the 50" will live in public waters, trying to get a booner without paying big bucks to hunt a prime piece of property is almost immposible.
Look at the number of 50" that are caught every year by the relativly few anglers pusuing them and now look at the number of Booners shot by the MILLIONS of hunters pursuing them! |

| Lots of replies echo the same message... B&C is a lot more rare than a 50". Change the 50" to 56, 57, 58, 59, or 60" or 45# or 50# etc...and I bet the answers would be different. You gotta compare trophies of equal "weight"...
B&C vs. 50"? Maybe lean toward the B&C.
B&C vs. upper 50" fish or a TRUE 45# plus fish? I WILL TAKE THE FISH ANYDAY!!!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'll be in a tree this afternoon after spending the morning cutting firewood with Keith. I really don't much care about a trophy deer now, I've plenty of mounts and no room on the wall for another. I wouldn't mind another 50, that's always a welcome happening, and of course I'd arrow a P&Y no worries, but either is just fine as fate might allow.

So you are saying that a 50" fish is not a trophy anymore? I bet alot of guys and gals would say that a 50" fish is a trophy to them.
Ok then go Trophy for Trophy:
If you had to make the choice between either fishing for what you consider a TROPHY fish or having the chance to hunt for a B&C what would you choose..??? |

| Guest,
Most folks consider a 50" muskie a trophy, but most folks also consider a nice 8 pointer a trophy too.
B&C bucks are much more RARE than a 50" muskie. Lot's of 50" muskies are caught and RELEASED each year and muskies can live 15 to 20+ years, an extremely old buck might make 7 or 8 years old, once a buck is shot it's dead, you can't release a deer.
it depends a lot on where you hunt or fish as well, in terms of how rare different trophies are.
Do people ever shoot 2, 3, 4, or 5+ B&C deer in one day? NO. Do top guides shoot 20, 30, 40+ B&C deer in one year? NO.
Once in a lifetime deer might be a B&C and a once in a lifetime muskie is ABSOLUTELY larger than 50 inches if you put the time in fishing them well on good trophy waters.

Boone with a bow has to be akin to a fitty casting. However, I gave up the bow last year to chase these derned muskys later on than I had. Do I miss bowhunting? UBETCHA! But, I love these cruel fat females that we love so much that our wive's understand. |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I got to go with a Boone&Crockett for sure.
The areas I hunt here in Waukesha County do have that size deer BUT they are very smart and nocturnal due to lots of hunting preasure. Muskies can be caught 24/7 day or night. Big, huge bucks will give you a chance for a week or two a year during the rut. I find it harder to score a Boone&Crockett buck than to catch a 50-incher.
Now if you go to a 55-incher or a Boone&Crockett, that would be more equal. They both exist but both are very hard to see if ever for some. It all depends on the areas you fish or hunt. Some people fish in areas where a 55-incher is only a dream and others hunt where a Boone&Crockett might never grow up to those standards.
I have caught two 50lb + fish but I have never shot a Boone&Crockett........................I have the first two weeks off in November and that is my goal. I got a P&Y last year and now a B&C. Bring on the rut so I can stick my Boone&Crockett, then I will be in full muskie mode for the rest of the season. |

| Deer Record keeping organizations -Pope & young has to be shot with a bow - whitetail must be 125" , Boone & Crockett any legal weapon may be used and must be 170" (whitetail) to qualify
These are for typical whitetails

| Anyone ever done both in the same day, week, year? Two years ago I landed a 48.5"x26" prespawn fish and that fall arrowed a 154 7/8" 10 point...I think thats my new goal: shoot a 170" and catch a 50" the same week. (I like a challenge) LOL

| Definitely a B&C.
I've shot Pope and Young bucks up to 149", and have had close encounters with bigger ones.
I've also caught some nice muskies, and have had some close encounters with fish that were over 50", and the adrenelin rush pales in comparison to having a 250# animal within 20 yards of you.
Killing big deer can be a fluke, a once in a lifetime happening. But seeing them makes you shake uncontrolably and you have to hang on to the tree. I've never felt like puking or like falling over from being around a big fish. It is thrilling, but it doesn't alter your brainwaves like a run-in with a big buck does.
Forget the B&C. Do it with a bow and see if you can keep your pants clean. Putting down a 150 class animal at 250 yards is cool, but it doesn't come close to trying to breathe without being heard.
I'd be more proud of a 150" P&Y than a 170" B&C, simply because of the weapon of choice. |

| Beaver I have to agree with you. Close encounters with big bucks are unforgetable. I had my perfect ten point (154" +) within 10 yard of me with no clear shooting lane, and was trembling out of control (probably would have missed the shot?). He finally stepped into a clearing at 35 yards and composed myself to make the shot -(visuals that will never be forgotten). Personally thats why I am addicted to muskie fishing, the visual .....man I wish I was in a tree right now, work is overrated!

| I wish I was either vegetarian, or, scared of touching fish. I have the hardest time choosing which to do and when. I am always in the boat wishing I was in the treestand, and vice versa. It doesnt help that I took my buddy out this last saturday, he never went musky fishing before, so, I was like, hey, I'll take you out, be at my house at 6am, he shows up and tells me that friday night, while I was at a friends wedding, he shoots a big 8pt we have been watching. So, I take him out, have him take the first rod that goes off, and he lands a fat 43 1\2 within 5 minutes of trolling. So, If I could just shoot a "nice" buck now, Id be happy, I have tons of skis from the fall, just lacking in the meat department. |

| Trick photography. Look how far behind the buck Dan is. And he's not kneeling, either. He's on his butt, so the deer looks that much bigger yet! And both without a guide, so they count, too! Cool Beans, Dan! LOL. Just kidding, Dan. That is one awesome buck!!
While I was extremely happy and excited to finally get my 50 incher, and I got the leg shakes on that fish, and my boys big fish 3 years ago, there is absolutley nothing that makes my heart POUND, like a BIG buck does. My biggest is only a 140 class so far, but I've seen some monsters out there. Maybe if I ever get back on some decent land, and maybe can find some for bowhunting locally, I'll have a shot at a big deer again. Hope the heart can stand it.
I'd say B&C for sure!
