jlong's picture of his son with a fish got me thinking about those memorable fish. I'm sure that no matter what he catches in the future, taking that pic will always stand out. I recall being a judgeboat for a tourney and getting a phone call from my brother that he had one in the net and it was his first fish from what we consider our homewater so I'll never forget that. I'll never forget sticking a nice mid 40 in early July when fireworks were being shot off overhead and I didn't need any lights to see what I was doing when unhooking that fish. Not personal bests but memories that are more clear than bigger fish, multiple fish days, and so on. Had a fish in the net earlier this summer when fishing with AROZ and esox2 and esox2 sat down and said; "I'm not gonna make another cast because until I'll need the net on my next cast when I hook a 50." So that undersized fish will never be forgotten. Or earlier that day when I had hooked what seemed to be my 10th largemouth and AROZ shakes his head and says; "this lake is f'ing weird" and repeated saying that about 15 times that night.

It's a great sport/hobby/addiction when even those smaller fish or experiences have the ability to be as memorable as a personal best. Anyone else have any "memorable fish" tales to share?

I will never forget my first musky! I got it on Pelican, with my favorite fishing partner, my grandma! My grandma and grandpa fished together all the time on Pelican and really enjoyed their time together, but when my grandpa died from his heart condition she was left with no one to fish with. All growing up my grandma and I shared her boat and we fished hard! We did it all, panfishing, walleyes, and if I wanted to cast she is more than willing to cast with me! One summer day we were fishing out on Pelican and we decided since the panfish werent cooperating we would try and cast for some hammer handle pike so we could have a good fish fry. So running a deep diving rapala through thick weeds my line started moving the other way so I set the hook and instantly knew it was a nice fish. So I yelled for Grandma to get the net. After the fish jumped 4 times in front of the boat she did the perfect net job and we landed my first musky! A 42 incher. It was so nice to get that fish and to get it with my grandma!

Not one that I caught but memorable nonetheless. We had just arrived in Canada and was in the process of loading all of the gear into the boats for the drive to the resort. The owner of the resort finished helping us load up. He then picked up his rod and said "Bet you a dollar I can catch a muskie on one cast." My buddy told me he would probably get a taker for 100:1. One cast from the dock to the rocks and BAM! Landed a 32" fish. Fortunately, he hadn't voiced that to the resort owner!
