Also what's the longest that you have gone that ended up in a fish on? My longest this year was just over a minute, maybe 15 times around. Usually I stop 4 times around after I last saw it. Probably missed at least one by stopping too soon.

I went around with one in very shallow water in July for a good 3 or 4 minutes. Probably went around 75 times. 6'9 jrk rod, deep v boat. That was tough on the back, wish I was using my 8 footer lol.

This one was under 45 inches and came back 3 or 4 times. The water was dirty, heavy slop, and I just kept going around and around. Boat was drifting fast, too. I stomped off the trolling motor when whe came in the first time, maybe that's why the 8 took so long, we were moving down the bay quite a distance. Drifted over some really shallow weeds and there were more than a few on the bait when she finally got ahold of it.

my first figure 8 fish followed my buck around 16 times before biting.

Keep doing it deeper and deeper as long as the fish sticks around and then bring it back up at some point for an additional trigger. Personally I have caught muskies up to the tenth time around, that fish was a 43 that followed a Topraider all the way in, but didn't take it until I had the bubble trail as deep as could go. That is a Lake X in Canada where they like to follow, so you really have to work hard to get them to commit.

Actually I have caught most of my figure eight fish after they darted away. Don't think it isn't interested anymore when they turn and bolt. They seem to look for a diffferent angle to attack from. When they dart I figure eight for at least one minute. It works...and it scares the crap out of you..... when they come back they just smoke the bait.

I had a fish in sabaskong this year follow for atleast 5 minutes, I even switched baits on her, dropped a j-mac jig in front of her, and she kept with it. she just never looked like she would ever bite. I told my partner to grab the camera and snap a pick, I just wish we had a polarized lense on, but, you can still see the fish, her nose is right on top of the bait, cool as can be.

Anyone ever "Figure 0?" I think it works better on the smaller fish.

This may be a little different than in murkier waters, but in clear water I have visually noticed the fish will not go away most of the time and at times can take as long as 2 minutes of the figure 8 to get them interested again. Maybe they get burnt out after following, epescially if its real quick and they miss the bait. Why take the lure out and recast everytime, even if it is a shorter cast? I USUALLY, meaning not always, figure 8 for a while knowing that I may not see many, if not any other fish that day.

I think a big oval can work better on larger fish, not smaller fish...this year I have lost track of how many figure 8 fish I've caught and had hit...lots and lots..
I get most to hit in the first turn going out away from the boat, or at most 1 figure 8...doing a smooth figure 8 is very important, I often feel as if I'm starting the 8 before I even get the fish to the boat...long rods are key for this...it gets the fish jazzed up and zoned in on your lure and not you and the boat much easier...

in years past I've had some come back that I thought were gone and hit the bait...there is no rule on how long to do it...just do it until you are sure (or as sure as you can be) that the fish is not going to hit....
