Location: Black Creek, WI | Well.... just got back from a week at Disney World with the family and my youngest son, Ethan, wanted to go fishing (since I wouldn't take him fishing in Florida). So... like any loving father would do... I loaded up the boat and took him to the local "pond" when we got home. We took 248 pictures at Disney World.... but these are his favorite. Heh heh. I'd say he has the fishin' bug... and I'm one proud papa.

I gotta see that rod up close so I can make one for my grandaughter, like Lori was asking about in her outdoors girls thread.

| It's always great fun fishing with the kids, isn't it Jason. Every fish they get, it's like the first one they ever caught! One more weekend, and I'll have mine out with me again in the new Tuffy. I can't wait. Keep those memories coming! |

Location: Black Creek, WI | Rob,
The rod Ethan is using is a Shakespear combo from Fleet Farm. Not the greatest... but it works great for small spinnerbaits and rapala type lures.
The musky was a fish I hooked with a Jake on a 7'6" H action Avid... and Ethan helped me "reel it in".
On a side note... I had Ethan using a baitcaster yesterday with pretty good success. The rod was a little long for him... but he handled the baitcaster quite well. I think switching from 25# mono to some sort of a braid might help even more. The little dude is gonna be a great "finesse" fisherman... as he can twitch a crankbait and work a Zara Spook like a pro!
Hopefully he grows a little over the winter.... cause I have visions of some good musky hunting with my "little buddy" in 2007! His hands just need to get a little bigger for him to handle the true musky gear for any length of time. My 7 year old is plenty big for the musky gear... but he's more into Scooby Doo, Game Boy, girls, and now Roller Coasters! Oh well.... I guess they can't all be addicted to fishing like Dad. |

Location: Somewhere on the water!!!!!!!! | GREAT JOB.............That is what it's all about.
I still remember when my son (now 15) reeled in his first Musky, I think I was more excited than he was.
Now all you have to do is get him a real fishing hat and get rid of that thing he is wearing now. HA HA HA............GO BEARS!!!!

Very cool indeed. I've got a 5 and half foot muskie stick you can have him use if you think that would help with the rod length stuff. It's just gathering dust and isn't the greatest but it might do the trick.
I'd take my nephew out when he was a bit younger and thought I'd teach him how to cast a flyrod. Before I knew it he's roll casting better than I ever could at the age of 8. Took him out muskie fishing a few times and the first time out he's struggling with a baitcaster. Can't reel it in fast enough to get a bucktail to turn, clip on a manta and tell him just to "make it dance." First cast out a mid 40's is charging that bait and he doesn't think anything of it. Just says; "hey, I think there's something trying to eat my lure" and pulls it out of the water! 4 casts later the same thing happens.
So kids have that ability to suprise you and eventhough I've had days where fish were not active with my nieces and nephew they are some of the best memories I have. It's just really cool hearing stories like yours and I'm guessing more exciting than if you would have had one of those insane days with fish showing up from all over the place.
