Location: nationwide | Different densities of the same wood can cause problems. Wood closer to the center of the tree is heavier than wood towards the outside of the tree. The trick is to have a design that works with any density wood of the same species. Things such as wire diameter, hook size, blade material and other hardware required will also play a part in getting a topwater lure to stay on top. Painting techniques (spraying versus dipping) and clear coat types (epoxy versus spray poly) will also add weight to a lure.
There are many more little items that effect buoyancy but I think you get the idea.
