I do not want to throw anyone under the bus and no names please.

What do you guys/gals think about guides fishing the first water when they are guiding ? Does it matter to you or not ??
Do you all mind fishing behind a person that knows the lake and where the fish normally set up OR do you feel like it doesn't make a difference ??

Any guide worth is salt would cast in such a way to leave the guy in the back of the boat fresh water to cast to.

As long as the guide does that I don't care if he runs from the front or the back. Now if he's beating the snot out of a spot and you're casting into water he already hit? Well, change baits first of all, but that to me is not good guiding.

A guide is being paid to put you on fish. IMO he should not be making the first cast at any structure he should position the boat so you get the first crack. Are there any old school guides out there that don't wet their line while they have clients out? I know of one person who doesn't fish when he has clients but he doesn't guide very much anymore.

I normally fish from the back of my boat so I don't mind second water.

However, that said, I do not like it when I pay a guide and he gets first water. It s different if the guide is fishing from the front of the boat and cast in front of his boat while he tells you to cast to the structure along the bank.

I will not book him again and will make sure that anybody that asks will know also.

I was out with Howie a few years ago and he just ran the trolling motor and told stories. He only fished when we asked to see some of his monster homemade baits he has.

topic of heated debate and discussion that last year or 2....personally I have only hired a few guides over the last 13 years..first one was Lee Tauchen to show me a little about Monona back when I thought it looked like an ocean...he made sure you (the client) had the best angles etc. , Howie Meyer...same...he did more story telling than casting the day I fished w/ him...Mike Hulbert...same...he set the boat up to give you the best shot...now, I did fish with SWorrall for a day and he did run the boat from the front...but he had a little itty bitty jig and was messing around trying to catch baitfish than muskies..that was cool by me...even if he had casted I wouldn't have cared that day...it was for an auction and it was not a serious "guide day" by any means...
When I took EA out for that day recently I went to the back and tried like heck not to catch fish!

If a guide can guide from the front and give the clients clean water with the best shot at catching and raising fish by all means, guide from the front.....I just don't see how that can happen most of the time...unless they aren't casting...

The guys i have had ran the the boat from the back so we were always in clean water and they casted behind us. the more lures in the water easier to figure out what the fish want. sometimes first is not always better I have seen a couple of big fish caught at the back of the boat (40lber and a 30lber) The guideshould ask if its alright if he fishes tho.
