Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | (More) MuskieFIRST Presque Isle Outing Updates (9/27/06)
-Boat/No Boat List is now up in the Outings Forum: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=29... There appear to be more open slots than people to fill them, so if you're hedging on coming up to the outing because you dont have a boat, get in touch with someone saying they have an opening, you'll probably be able to find a slot.
-Room Availability: If you are still looking to book a room, you need to do so ASAP! (Barring cancellations) Skyview Lodge http://www.skyviewlodge.com is full, and Carlin Lake Lodge http://www.carlinlakelodge.com has only two rooms open. After these rooms are full, you will either need to find a single spot in an already booked room (a few guys have mentioned they might allow a few others to crash in their rooms), or you will need to find lodging elsewhere! Sorry!
-Suckers: Thanks to all who volunteered to help in this effort, but the folks at Skyview and their local connections have assured me that they and M1st will be able to work to ensure that each morning there will be more than enough suckers for those who (at least the night before) put in their orders for suckers for the days to follow. We will be taking count on who needs what to start Thursday/Friday, and will be making daily runs to ensure that everyone has fresh, strong, black suckers every morning! We will have prices for what is available as we get close to the date.
-Area Lakes: each morning at breakfast (Thursday-Sunday) Adam Johnson, Howie Meyer, and the M1st Staff will be describing area lakes that have positive fish catching potential for that day, and we will be handing out laminated pre-marked maps to boats interested in those lakes. We have alot of boats coming up, and with so many area lakes with such great fish catching possibilities (both numbers and size) it seems a good idea to make sure that everyone gets that full Presque Isle wilderness muskie fishing experience, and avoids the crowds. Anglers will be free to fish any lake they choose, but we are hoping that we can spread the wealth a bit, figure out patterns on a bunch of lakes, and have pics of big fish coming out of a lot of the lakes in the area. These meetings are NOT mandatory, and the lakes will NOT be assigned, and people are more than free to figure out their own lake choices for any day beyond the lakes we have pre-marked maps for.
-Howie Meyer http://www.sevenislandsguideservice.com is booked up for the weekend, but will be around helping out those coming to the outing, and will be giving a seminar Friday night on area lake tactics. Forbes Taylor, a long time area guide, IS available to take guide clients on at least 2 of the three days Friday-Sunday. There are a NUMBER of area lakes that have some great big fish potential and are either private access only (Armour, ____ [thats how secret it is]) or very trecherous (Crab Lake) but can be fished with Forbes. Also, for those new to late fall tactics, especially sucker fishing, a day with Forbes can be a really great way to beat the learning curve. He can be reached at (715)686-7580, and is sure to show whomever chooses to spend the day with him an experience well worth the expense!
-Rates: for the remaining spots at Carlton Lake Lodge, and for any rooms that come available, the rate still is.....
*$20 a day/person for lodging
*$10 a day for breakfast and a light sack lunch
*$10 a day for dinner
****thats $40 a day to fish out of some top flight lodges in the heart of some of Wisconsin's best trophy muskie waters, at the best time to catch a fat Wisconsin muskie.
*****If you're hedging on going or not going, what is there to ponder, just call Carlin and get one of those last rooms!
Lastly...its POSSIBLE one of the midwest's premier fishing and outdoors shows will be around that weekend to get all the action of the outing on film, which will then be an episode aired on tv stations throughout the midwest....more word on that as it develops!
We hope to see you all there!

Will the Skyview be serving a breakfast that we can pay for that is not part of the plan? I am thinking of supplying my own lunch and just doing the dinner plan |

breakfast will be a buffet
lunch will be a light pack-lunch

this is a smoking hot deal!
if you can find a better rate than this anywhere at a comparable resort, i'll pay for you to go there.
i encourage everyone attending to fully support Skyview/Carlin in appreciation for the amazing deal they're offering for our Outing. |

Considering how much beer I drink- having someone else provide chow for me is a really good idea |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | CHANGE IN PLAN: Skyview will not have suckers for you to PURCHASE, but they will have facilities for you to STORE them in....
There are more than one places to buy suckers in town, which is less than a mile away. They know we're coming, and will have enough for everyone.
I know this is a big change, but from a logistical standpoint, this just makes better sense on a number of levels. |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Ok....Places to look for suckers outside Presque Isle, if you're planning on picking them up on your way up there.
Rollie & hellen's on Hw51, Minoqua
Kurt's Island Sports " "
Coontail Corner/BP on M in Boulder Junction
Guide's Choice in Eagle River
The Tackle Box in downtown Land O Lakes
I'm not bashing anybody, or trying to be a trouble maker, but Northern Highlands Sports in downtown Boulder Junction is an "anti 50" size limit" business. Personally, I haven't shopped there in 4 years. |

Location: De Pere Wisconsin | I need to cancel my room at Skyview tomorrow - my wife and I after three years of looking, found and are closing on a home between Eagle River and St. Germain next Thursday. I am super bummed even though I don't frequent the board very much, I was looking forward to meeting a bunch of die hards! But the flip side is that we now have a home on a lake with muskies in it and I think I will be spending next weekend (the outing weekend) playing around the new digs I hope I can get to one of these things next year. If I can make it up Saturday does anybody have an idea how long the drive is to Presque Isle from say Hwy G and 45 in Eagle River?
Hope someone can grab this room!

Location: minocqua, wi. | last minute change for me as i'm going to accomodate my buddy andy grimm and kirk at my place in minocqua during the outing instead of staying with magruter in p.i. at the skyview ... if anybody needs to split a room, let me or magruter know. i'll keep him clean on it if there are no takers, but if anybody needs it let us know. also, just to make sure i've got it all right
wednesday - open (remember from college ... at least at stout, the weekend actually begins on wednesday)
thursday - magruter
friday - magruter (a second available)
saturday - magruter (a second available)
sunday - the yamikid and brian
my plan will be to travel from p.i. to some cisco lakes and others i know for fishing that time of year.
i'm predicting indian summer and a fashion show in the parking lot |
