Location: Bloomington, MN | I meant to post that I had an unusual experience last night while reeling a a bucktail. I picked up a big clump of milfoil about 25 feet from the boat and was unable to snap it off. I swung the bait out of the water and started to pick the weeds off when I noticed a very late follow. I was wondering if anyone continues to fig. 8 with weeds on the bait without seeing a follow?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Somtimes the fish will hit a weed covered bait, other times not. If she's on the lure, I figure eight the bait.
Haven't seen that big girl you were chasing at the KWMC yet, but I'm checking for her every trip.... |

| Yes, always figure eight - even with a long tail of weeds. It can happen. I caught one (not on an 8) where the bait was so engulfed in weeds you could barely see it - but the fish still knew it wa there and ate it. |

| i always try to do at least part of an oval..or for sure an L with weeds on the bait...they will hit it with weeds on it...
had a very large fish come in super hot and late for a friend that had pulled his Joe out of the water with one little weed on it before doing an 8...if he had the bait in the water? well we will never know..muskies do very strange things.. |

Location: The desert | Ah, the good ol' "Weed Pattern" Definately figure 8 even with weeds. Ulbian and I missed a real nice fish that came out of the water after a bait that was choked with weeds.....when I say choked I mean tha the bait was not even visible in this clump of weeds...I told Ulbian we were using the wrong patterns, we needed to put on our "Weed Pattern"!

| Yes Mike...that was a nice fish. Weed choked bait? That wasn't really the way it was...it was weed smothered, weed caked, weed saturated. That WAS a fish that had it been figure eighted it would have eaten that thing. What you didn't mention was that on that same spot a fish (probably that same one) came up on your bucktail that was also covered in weeds. So yes...figure 8 those weed covered baits.

Location: Des Moines IA | I pulled a weed coverd shaker out of the water at Webster last winter only to see a 40 incher looking for the bait, So I hit the spool dropped it back in, and WHAM!!! She hit it instantly, still covered with weeds. Always do something at boatside, oval, L, or 8, it'll pay dividends in the end ...... |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I have had fish come smokin in after a weed coverd bait, speed it up and they will smash it.
If they don't then pull it out and quickly clean it and slap it back into the water. Sometimes the slap will trigger a responce and they will look for the bait again.
These two things have worked for me before.

| Had a late follow the other evening on a Top Walker when the bait ran into some stringy floating veg. Twice in the 8 she finally ate it, but that was after the weeds fell off. So yes, keep figure 8ing no matter what. Unless you're prefishing a tourney or something... |
