So the black cloud, the curse, the hex, the whatever that has been over/on/near Jeff, aka, EsoxAddict has been lifted!!!!

We hit the water a little after 8 a.m. with high hopes of catching some fish...first off on Monona...we hit deep weedlines to start, right away EA says his now infamous (to me at least) "i'm on!"...dang it...33" pike!

So we hit all the areas I want to hit and we don't move a SINGLE musky by 2pm...so I make the call to jump lakes and head to Waubesa ...Good thing we did...

First spot, look down at EA's bucktail and low and behold there is a nice musky behind it! it didn't eat but that got our hopes up after 6 hours of nothing on Monona...not too long later a fish comes screaming up behind his bucktail as he brought it in and I tell him kick it down into the 8! Sure enough she eats...this is where the story gets funny...So I reel in most of my lure, set the rod down, go to grab the net...well in grabbing the net...the hoop hits my rod and sends it overboard..no WAY was I going to let one of my 8'6" All Stars and Big Game CL end up at the bottom of the lake...so basically overboard I went to save it! as EA is fighting the fish, I'm climbing back in the boat with rod in hand...why don't they make cell phones waterproof anyway ! would have been a sure fire Americas Funniest Home Videos winner...

So we net the fish..and all is good ...36"er...take off wet clothes, put on toasty goretex bibs and fleece jacket and we're set..Celebratory beer and we are ready for more...

set up, make another pass over that weedline and he has another fish eat! this time it nips the back end...a few head shakes and she's off...a solid 39-40" fish...so we hit a few more areas I wanted to hit...come back to the honey hole and the first pass thru EA brings up a hawg...I didn't see it but by the look and expression on his face after she left..it was nice...45" and "wide bodied" as he put it...

So we make another pass, it's dark now, EA asks, "should I put on a top raider or something?"...my reply "not a chance, keep that bucktail on"

And he's throwing it on my rod and reel no less!

So we are talking about what auction this day was for and we came to realize it was for Adam Oberfoell's son Mason who passed away...a few minutes later, Bam... EA say's "i'm on!"
Which to me means get the net! I'm sure Mason was watching down on us!

So this fish puts up a bit more of a battle. and stays down, takes some line and I stayed in the boat this time...we get her in..heck ya! nice fish...

nice 40.9", which I think we can call 41"... to end the night with celebratory beer of course...
we made one more pass by the big girl but she didn't want to play...

Good day ....slow start but a good finish...36", 41" and lost a 40"ish...plus 2 more decent fish raised...EA got his first ever musky to eat on the 8 and I went overboard for the first time! Good times!

EA you are now set to tear it up this fall....oh btw Jeff..check your tackle bag..I swiped your "gliders" box and am selling them for $1 each...anyone can PM for the list! gliders suck.

here are some pics

I think the mohawk curse is a myth...just cuz I went overboard doesn't mean I have been cursed by the "chomo hawk" you guys put on me...and somehow..the Razor dried out and it fired back up! sweet.

oh and another side note, the tail split on the first fish was not from us...we were saying how "beat up" the fish looked when we netted it in the big beckman with fin saver...I am quite sure the fish was so banged up by a poor handling and netting job probably with a crappy old walleye net or something...that fish was beat up...it was healthy and eating but it's too bad it was poorly handled by whoever caught her last....

hope to see her in 3 years or so!

Thanks everybody!

I must admit it felt great to kill that skunk!

My first figure 8 fish is one I'll never forget! Brad already told the story, but I think you might like to hear it from my perspective:

I had moved a decent (maybe 38") fish a pretty short time before this in the same general area, so I was making sure to stay focused. As I reel my (ok it was Brad's) bucktail up to about 10 feet from the boat, there's another fish! Not very big, but she's coming in hot...

No lazy figure 8's for me, not anymore -- I'm taking that bait away from that fish! So I speed up, go into an "L", she's on it. As I go over the top she hammers the bait, I set the hook, holy %^$& I've actually got her hooked! I think I heard a choir singing in the background.

So I say "I'm on!" (I never knew I said that until yesterday when Brad pointed it out...)

This is where things get a little fuzzy...

I look back to see if Brad knows I've got a fish. He's going for the net, that's good. I look back and see the fish, hooked in the corner of the mouth, that's good too. Not a very big fish, but I don't care. It's a fish. Just then I hear from the back of the boat "oh %^&*!!" I look over and see Brad reaching out into the water for something. Look back to the fish, there it is. I'm thinking "hey, hurry up with that net..."

So I look over to see what's taking so long just in time to see Brad tumble over the side of the boat into the water.

Holy $^&% there goes Nelson...

*SPLASH!*

Panic sets in... My mind is racing.

am I gonna have to hand land this fish?

Should I try to get to the back of the boat, grab the net and net her with one hand?

Oh $%#& what if Nelson can't swim? Should I go help him?

Fish? or Nelson? Fish? Or Nelson?

He's climbing back in the boat, that's good. I hear a bunch of expletives and something like "I can't BELIEVE I just went in the lake!"

I'm trying really hard not to laugh -- this whole thing must look like a circus from a distance.

This whole time Summer is sitting on the boat between us looking back and forth like "what the $^&# are you clowns DOING?"

So we get the fish in the net, a couple high fives, fish goes back, we crack a beer and the rest is history.

Lucky for Brad he had spare clothes in the boat.

What I want to know is this, Brad:

How do you go head first off the side of the boat and not get your hair wet?

oh my god....i'm crying laughing at that! well what you didn't see was as I was going over I grabbed one of the rails back there and my head and upper body flipped around and only legs went in! that's why my wind shirt and long sleeve shirt were only wet right above the waste! hair and ranger visor saved! score!

Yah, Summer dog is still wondering how us two *ss clowns survived the day ....

For any of you guys who don't know Brad, he's on his game. Puts a LOT of fish in the boat in a pretty tough fishery, and (as he proved yesterday) knows where the fish are and what they're going on.

I kept saying "Hey, you ought to be throwing one of these" since I was moving (and catching) fish, but he wouldn't hear it -- he wanted ME to catch the fish.

There's a lot to be said for a guy who will give you one of his most productive baits and throw something else himself.

Thanks again, Brad!

I will NOT forget yesterday.

Okay....I'm familar with the "Nelson plunge for the rod" bit. Except this time he had to go swimming for a 9 foot All Star that is still on the bottom of Lake "X".

Bukes- "To bad there is no video of this excursion. It would be CLASSIC."

Well, I do have video of this adventure. In the video I am laughing so hard I'm crying!! I say, No buzz cut, and I'll hand over the video to Mike Hulbert to play in his booth at Chicago over and over again!! In the video, Brad is screaming like a little girl because the water is cold. I've had this since June, just waiting for the right time!!!

Great Story! But from what I heard last night there's more that Brad hasn't told us......after all this he was 'alledgedly' seen roaring up to the launch at Olin (with Red Ranger in tow) about 10'ish Thursday seemingly on a mission. Man, I'd like to know what you're on cause I'm slowing down in my old age!

No secrets in that town are there???

It was a marathon musky run -- we've got a "secret spot" on Monona that is on fire between 11:00pm and 3:30am. It's only about 10 yards wide x maybe 30 yards long. NOBODY knows about it, which is why it must be approached under cover, in darkness, with no lights and only the trolling motor.

Last night's fish: 47-1/2" followed by a fat 49"er, a solid 46, and one we lost at 2:00 am that was easily 52 and 40 pounds.

Shhhhhhhh!

(If you don't believe that, let's stick with this: My car was parked at Olin and Brad was just dropping me off

)

Congrats EA. Was the second fish a PB? Brad has been Mr. PB all month.

Very funny to hear both accounts of the story.

I for one hope that EA never has a slump like he went through, again.

What are you going to talk about now, EA?

Good job guys.

Congradulations Jeff. It was great to get the phone call on the 35 and I was out of cell range when you called on the 41.That Brad is a pretty good guide. After he left you, I hooked up with him up north. He put me on a 34, 40, and a 43. Heck, he even ran my boat from the back. He filled me in on your exploits and he was so happy to be able to get you that ever elusive esox. We both owe him a beverage or two. Thanks Brad. Attached are pictures of the 40 inch class fish.

good fish...pretttty colors on that 43...now what about the bigger one you missed!
