| Does anyone know about how old a 13" muskie would be? The reason I ask is I caught one around this size over the weekend on a lake that stocks 10"ers in October. I don't really know there growth rate, but figured it would be fast the first couple years of the fishes life. Thanks for any info.

6th paragraph down, not even a year old. But wiki is a public forum where user enter information, most if verified though. |

| so if a musky can grow a foot or so from spring spawn to november is there a chance this was a naturally reproduced fish. |

| I would say it is not natural reproduction. |

Location: The desert | All sorts of determining factors to growth. Water quality, forage, space, habitat etc. If I had to guess I would say it was probably one year old.

| If it's from where I think. You caught a real long shot natural baby. |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Fish that we stock in late Oct-Nov are usually around that 10-13" range. If you caught the fish in the summer to now it's probable that the fish hatched last year. |

Location: Ogden, Ut | Call the biologist responsible for the management of the water and ask him or her. There are far too many variables to pin it down for most anyone here. Natural vs. stocked, time of year stocked, differential growth rates, dare I say...illegal introductions; any can contribute to 'odd' fish lengths. Our tigers grow from 2-4" fish stocked in June to nearly 20" by November. But they live in a buffet line. Different waters will have fish exhibiting drastically different growth rates.
Besides, the bio would probably love to hear about it - you never know what info might be most useful.

That fish was not a natural fish.
It was stocked. |
