Out of Wisconsin...I doubt it. I don't think a 50-pounder has been caught in Wisconsin for a long time. Mille Lacs, Georgian Bay or Ontario maybe. Need to see some proof.

I'm sure they would have cut away from the Brewer's game if their was an ounce of legitimacy to a new world record (unlike the current "World Record"). I believe that Wisconsin's shot at a 69 lb. 11 oz. + class fish is remote, except for the fish that run in and out of Lake Michigan tributaries and bays. I even have my doubts about a Minnesota lake ever producing a legitimate 60 lb. class fish except out of the Angle Inlet area. If the "BIG" critter shows up, it will be out of Lake Ontario/St. Lawrence "Sea Way" River, Lake Huron/Gerogian Bay area, "possibly" eastern Lake Erie area, or some Canadian Lake lake like Nipissing. Sorry Mr. Worrall, Wabigoon and Dinorwic are capable of catchable upper 50 lbs class fish (60 lbers lay in the nice clean water with their mouths open waiting for 6 lb. walleyes/suckers to swin into their mouths). Curtis Dawson whacked his, and you let yours go (God Bless You). Eagle Lake, Ontario??? You would think with all the lines in the water someone would have "snagged & whacked" a 60 lber in the last 45++++ years!!....but Steve Herbeck is Eagle's trump card. Realistically we may never know where or whenever it may show up!!!!

dward, I'm not poking fun at you or the INCREDIBLY GREAT STATE OF WISCONSIN in least bit. I wish I could live and make a half way "decent" living "Nort of Point" den dere with my High Maintenance Blond, but she don't wanna leave her Vike's and Windsor. I remember as a kid (7-12 years old) watching WAEO TV Channel 12 Rhinelander Wisconsin (Hi!!! Ron Roberts here for Sedlak's in Minocqua..HOME OF MONNEYYYYY SAVING DEALS!!!!..look at these beauties!!) There were a few times I recall that someone brought a big muskie (35 lbs. +++) to the studio during the news cast("the color for tomorrow is white...lots of white bucktails over at Carl's bait shop don't yah know!!"). It was usually a Boom Lake fish and the guys were half Geezed up in the studio. My Dad, Grandparents and I would then zoom up from Pelican Lake (Welch's Bayside Resort) the next morning and see the fish in a cooler outside (Bob's/Ron's/Hodag....someone help me????) Sports Shop in Downtown Rhinelander. I would then need to feed the trout outside the Clarriage Inn with pellets for a nickle a pop! I was actually on "The Andy Andell goes Safari Fishing" program!!! He came to Pelican to film a muskie show, and things went sour as it usually goes when muskie fishing. He and his gang actually ended up going to and filming the local Pelican Lake Chamber of Commerce Donkey Baseball Game. I'm sure they had fun since it was 1975ish (Free Pabst for everyone!!). My friend, Mark Welch, and I showed up with a huge 34.5" during the Ass baseball game. He was filmed kissing his muskie (I was in the distant background...unfortunately my 15 seconds of fame) on the hood of his Dad's Chevrolet dual wheel pick-up (possibly before Mr. Jimmy"I have way too much hair for my age" Houston!!!). Does anyone know what is going on/happened with Mr. Andy Andell??? I think we need to start a new thread with Rhinelander area memories!! I'M GETTING FERKLEMPT!!! Hopefully my friend and I will win the Hodag tournament this year(remotely place in the top 20 if we are incredicablily lucky), since I "think" this is the last time for Pelican in the Hodag Challenge "2006 50" size limit".

Andy moved to Florida and went back to his old vocation, a tire dealer. The Hodag will be just fine on Pelican. The upper confidence level on the Goon is upper 50# class, so a 60 is more than possible. I have seen at least two. It was Bob's. Sedlaks is still hawking rolling wrecks and new cars. Only half?? That was when Rhinelander held the world record for number of taverns per capita, man!

I do not think I have heard the name Andy Andell for many moons, what a flashback to the childhood.

I worked a ton of shows and promotions while Andy was a 'competitor' as a boat and tackle sales representative. He had it going on for awhile, repping Ranger, then Skeeter, and some of the top tackle lines. He was a hoot, a real party animal, and was known in the trade as TV Andy. His TV show was like watching home video, and was always 'interesting'.

Andy worked hard and played hard making a living in the business for quite a long time.

World Record Fish? Maybe that scrolling screen had to do with the current WR controversy, I heard a program on NPR a couple of Sundays back. A math expert was looking over the challenge to the current WR and discussing the investigation, so it's still in the news.

I just wish someone would catch a new UNDISPUTABLE VERIFYABLE BONAFIDE NEW WR then we can put an end to all this BS

Hopefully it's me or someone from this board

With my luck I'll get one that weighs 69 lbs 14oz then just as the officials go to weigh it the beast will take a 5 oz poop

I was watching the brewer game off and on last nite myself, and like dward said, there was something that came across the board and i just happened to see the tail end of it. And in fact it did say 69 pounds 13 ounces caught near the Hayward area. I tried to search for it all over the net last nite, and could not find anything, so what type of fish or recent catch, i couldn't tell you, but there was something that was scrolled across the bottom of the screen. SO hopefully someone who saw the whole thing can make better sense of it.

This post is about 20 hours old already, if anything of the sort mentioned was true the Hayward "Powers That Be" would be all over these boards!

I'm glad someone mentioned world records, because I just came to this site and was gonna post a question about it.....someone also mentioned the BS.....that's what I want to know.......What's the deal......I was looking around on the 'net and am sorta confused....I found that the IFGA world record muskie weighes 67lb 8oz caught in Hayward, WI.....is that Spray's muskie?? BUT THEN, I found that the Wisconson State record muskie is listed at 69lbs 11oz caught from the Chippewa Flowage......after doing some more searching.....I found that the New York state record is 69lbs 15oz, caught from the St. Lawrance River by Arthur Lawton in 1957.....now I may be a little slow, being from Virginia and all, but simple amathratic tells me that the New York fish should be the world record......so what's the real deal?? I'm not trying to raise a ruckus....I really don't know.

Lawton's fish got disqualified a number of years ago, though there is a report saying someone is trying to get it reinstated because of new evidence... Spray's fish was shot when Landed so IGFA does not recognize it for that reason and the IGFA recognizes instead the Cal Johnson 67lbs fish.. Incidently Spray's fish has been discredited via photo analysis, though the Freshwater Fishing hall of fame decided to stil recognize it anyways... A new record keeping organization has been started that I guess will recognize some new record yet to be caught... If you do a search on this site using their search feature I am sure there are a ton of posts with lots of info about the world record... http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/search/query.asp just type in world record and see what pops up...

I live in Hayward and rest assured there has been no fish near World Record Class caught in many years. I believe the last fish even close to 50 #'s were Peter Haupts fish in 1982 (47.5 lbs)and Jerry Nelsons fish in 1993 (48.5 lbs). I am hearing of a 54"- 40# fish that was killled in LCO last week, but no pictures surfaced this week in the local fish wrap.........so until they do I will assume it is just another fish story.

I don't mean to keep pounding a dead horse.......but why would New York still count Lawton's fish as it's state record if it was proved false?? Tourism?? Same thing with Wisconsin and Spray.

Here is a link to the show that Steve heard on the radio dealing with the WR, like he said this thing isn't going away anytime soon. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5639651

or:

http://switchboard.real.com/player/email.html?PV=6.0.12&&title=dmg%...

I find it interesting that nobody has challenged the math and science that the WRMA used to prove that Spray's fish was faked and then covered up by John Dettloff. WWW.world recordmuskieallaince.com

What a hoot that someone flashed that up at the ball game as a joke!
