Location: Elk River, MN | Does the moon phases and times influence how you fish? Have the lunar "prime" times paid dividends vs fishing any / all time?
Thanks. |

It doesn't really affect my "fishing behavior" (i.e. when to get out and when not to). As a student I can only get out when nothing conflicts which means I might be fishing during a major lunar phase, or not. I will say that on LOTW this year many of the camps in the Morson area were loaded with muskie fishermen during the week of the full moon. During the new moon? In our camp it was just my dad and I. I expected to see people all over spots in Sab Bay during this time period, but was surprised (happily) at how few muskie boats we saw. |

| I fish whenever I can and pay absolutely no attention to lunar phases, barometer pressure, and so forth. I only get out a couple of times a month, and when I get the chance, I'm not going to decide to stay home instead because the Moon isn't in the right phase. |

| It doesn't influence if I am going to fish. I do pay attention to the minors, and that may influence how, and where I fish. |

| Moon phases are huge in my neck of the woods. They don't influence my behavior that much, but if there is a major /minor, lunch, dinner or sleep will have to wait.Fish when you can, but be on THE spot when it's time. Steve |

| Dhacker, yes to your question. The second week of our two week trip to LOTW was better in terms of fish boated and fish seen than the first week. My records also indicate this to be true in other waters as well. At the same time, last year we fished Mille Lacs for the first (well, second but first more-than-one-day trip) during a non-major lunar phase and boated six in three days including a 49". My PB this year came the week before the new moon in July, and others in the camp got some big fish including a 53" during the half-moon (or whatever) phase.
Bottom line: fish when you can. I get excited if I've got an outing that coincides with a major, but do I only fish around them? No. |
