I was wondering if Abu sells a parts kit for minor, on-the-water repairs. I saw one once, but I figured the guy put it together himself. I'm not trying to say anything negative about Abu and I hope everyone will leave that crap out of this thread. I have had minor problems on the water, before, that I thought I might be able to fix if I had the part(s) I needed and a good set of instructions. I got a hold of the instuctions a little while back (Thanks Chuck) so now I think I might want to invest in some of the commonly broken parts in advance. I plan on some extended trips in the future, and I'd hate to have reel problems send me out of the wilderness ahead of schedule. I figure carrying a few parts and tools might save a trip down the road. Thanks

Yea I agree c-nelson, my 6600 was making some funking noises until i oiled her up, no problems after that.i usually carry spare parts in an empty section of one of my lure compartments in my box,,along with a small tube of oil .. i also bought one of those small 8 in 1 screw drivers that has both flat and phillips heads, small and large attachments,,,comes in handy for all sorts of stuff....

Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to look into this where suggested. Oil fist repair only as a last resort. Good idea! I have a pair of TCM and a C4. Which parts match up with TCM? or do they have their own separate parts? I'm looking at the site Ranger suggested as soon as I post this, so I might answer my own question. Thanks again.

Kaz you can go to www.abu-garcia.com and download the reel plans for those reels and compare number numbers. If the TCM has 6.3:1 gear ratios (I don't know and I believe that they have 5.3:1) and the C4 which I know has 6.3:1 ratio then many internal part are interchangable. I think there are not. So the gears, worm, main, & pinon (sp?) will be different.

It's a good idea guys, don't get me wrong...

But isn't it easier to just carry an extra reel and fix the broken one when you get home?

Just sayin'

I'd still need the parts when I got home, right?

I think he is saying that you don't need to keep an inventory of parts if you have a spare reel.
