This past June I was lucky enough to have a chance to fish "up north", from a shallow (max. depth 13' ) to a deeper lake that has depths to 40" or so. Is there ciscos in these shallower lakes or is depth a major factor in knowing that cisco will be present? Do all lakes in Vilas and Oneida Co.with 30' or so of depth hold ciscos?

Just wondering

The lakes you find the ciscoes in are usually 'two story' and deep, with a thermocline that sets up in the warm months with acceptable oxygen levels above and below that line. Most of the shallower lakes won't support them because of the higher water temps. If the water gets too warm for them or too low in oxygen, they will die off pretty quickly. Here's a link to the fish:

not all lakes in vilas/oneida have crisco burgers, some do, some don't..depth is not a deciding factor. best way to find out is by asking locals or guides in the area about the forage base. sometimes you can find out via dnr website etc, fish creel data surveys. the fishing connections book can help you too.
