Would like to try some mono on my sucker rod this year - any recommendations as to weight and brand?

Before I switched back to superlines for everything (experimented with mono, for extra stretch), I was using 25lb. Berkley Big Game for sucker/trolling rods. Nice enough line, but it re-introduced me to "line memory", which was somewhat upsetting, thusly the reason I just went back to all superlines, for all applications.

Before using superlines for suckers, I used mono for years. It worked pretty well with the exception of one breakoff on a very large fish. I used 40# stren magnathin. It's pretty good stuff. I really don't see any advantage to going back to mono though.

I will be honest, I use Power Pro superbraid in 80# . I really dont know of any bennefits to mono for this situation. Really what the fish sees that may cause it not to take a sucker is the hooks and rigging not the line. I have had clear water situations when the fish would not take a quick strike rig and I have changed to a home made red hook and red leader rig and got them to take the sucker. I have also tried the circle hook rig with red leader and gotten them to go when they otherwise would not hit. The circle rig scares me a little though and the hook ups dont seem to be as good as the quick strikes do. Remember though, any line weight is generally reduced by 25% when a knot is tied in it. EX 80# is only good for 60 #s when you tie a knot in it. Others might have better knowledge of the mono but I like the heavy supers, less to worry about on a big fish for me...Good luck
