| Is their a guide or way to do the math to figger out how deep a lure is running back of the boat? Some way you can put in you line size, weight size, speed, lure size and tell how deep your lure is running?

It's called Musky Mike's Trolling Secrets. http://www.muskytrollingsecrets.com/ They did an excellent job with this book and the second edition is going to include more baits like Dawgs, and some with drop weights I believe. |

| I have found that on some trolling baits the package says will troll for example 15 feet deep with 50 feet of line. Now if you take those peices of information and put them into a ratio, you will be able to get a rough estimate at least with different lengths of line out. if you had a bait that went 15 feet deep with 50 feet of line this is how you would figure it out to see how deep it would dive at say 20 feet of line. I know it may not be any where near perfect for calculations, but if you didnt want to buy a book or anything a couple of minutes could get you ball parked.
Set it up as follows:(ignore the dots between deep and x, and line and 20)
15ft deep . . . . . . . . . .X
___________ = ___________
50 ft of line . . . . 20 feet of line
1. multiply the 15feet deep by your 20 feet of line to get:
300
_________ = X
50ft of line
2. Divide 300 by 50 to get
6 = X
3. This number is the number of feet deep your lure will be with 20 feet of line out. As i said before it wont be perfectly accurate, but it will at least get you started.
To try this for different lengths of line just take that 20 ft of line and change it to however long you want to troll with. I just used 20 for the easy calculations.

Location: mpls | A ratio would be great,but you would have to figure water temps and the type of construction of the bait (wood,plastic,fiberglass,ect) to be accurate. |

| Yeah i agree that it wouldnt be accurate. There are lots of factors that dont surface in books and how-tos such as lure composition water temps etc. There are basically to many variables to consider. All in all i do agree that the ratio isnt the most accurate way of going about things, but may be a quick help on a day when say you forgot your book or if your boat doesnt have a cd-dvd player! |
