Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | How do you cope with the heat on the water? I use all white clothing and hat, shorts, and keep myself wet down with lake water all day, lots of water bottles in the cooler. LOTS of sunscreen, but that's so i don't fry. Any other suggestions for keeping cool on a hot day on the water? |

Location: Racine, Wi | I pretty much just put on lighter weight cloths, and loose button down shirts. Seems to do the best it can. Make sure to wear sunscreen!!!!
On a similar note, for those of you with dogs out on the water with you. Bring a bag of ice and throw it in a cooler, or if you have one on your boat, make sure to back a bag or 2 so it doesn't all melt. Then just toss a few cubes for the pooch. Cools them off, keeps them hydrated and they don't have to go to the bathroom all the time. |

I've seen your pictures. You're not fat. You're mature, like me. Lambeau's boat should get a nice workout during the Presque Isle "pre-fishing".

Location: Downers Grove, IL | all of the above are great ideas. for drinking - i found a product called smartwater. it's like regular bottled water (no flavor) but they add electrolytes to it, which helps your body absorb the water faster. i don't know about the science but the stuff tastes really good. i have also seen a lot of people at the gym drinking it who look like they know what to put into their bodies! |

Location: oswego, il | I agree on the light colored clothes. It makes a big difference. There is a reason why tampa bay wears there white away jerseys and make the bears wear their navy blue ones in the early season. Don't skimp on the fluids, I bring plenty of vitamin water or gatoraid along and if it gets too hot, i just get off the water untill later on. |

| If you spend a lot of time on the water, you should be more worried about skin cancer than being comfortable. Buy a couple light colored fishing shirts, the real ones, with cloaked mesh backs, armpit mesh, etc, the works. Someone above said the same thing. Makes a HUGE difference. I bought a couple while in Florida for deep sea fishing on the gulf.
Next, get a way-cool hat, cowboy looking, almost, to provide shade. Big brim but with a chin strap for the wind.
Next, lots and lots of high-powerd sunscreen, keep it on all the time, every exposed skin should be covered all the time. You'll still get tanned.
Last, drink, unlike me, lots of healthy beverages.
When I went to Worrall's wedding there was this dude at the reception....he took off his shades and he looked like a frigging reverse negative racoon. Tanned as a hell but bright white all around his eyes; that dude spends time on the water.

| Last week was HOT in Canada - the weather and the fishing! For hydration, I took lots of powdered Gatorade along and mixed it in 2-qt juice bottles that I'd saved for making block-ice for the coolers. Each evening I'd make 2 bottles (1 gal total) of gatorade and fill 2 more bottles with water (leave some head room) and then stick them in the freezer overnight. In the a.m. we'd fill the cooler with sandwiches and a few sodas and put a frozen bottle of water and a frozen bottle of gatorade in the cooler to keep that stuff cool. The other frozen bottles of water and gatorade were just left out in the boat. As the morning wore on those bottles would melt and provided us with cold water and gatorade. By the time the sandwiches were eaten, the first round of bottles were empty and then we'd take the other 2 out of the cooler and drink those as they melted. For 2 people, this 2 gallons of liquid worked out just about perfect.

| for me
light colored, light cotton tshirt
mesh shorts
TONS of spf 49 sunproof
TONS of water during after and b4 going out.
alcohol in the heat is about the worst thing you can do to yourself physically.
NOW if i could only find a very small clip on fan to clip to my hat...i HATE that early morning fog-over of the Coasta Del-mar's.

Location: Appleton, WI | Obviously, sun screen and plenty of water! Rob and I decided, after last year, that we would skip the afternoon fish during the hot summer hours. So, that frees up time for ice cube games, remote skinny dipping... |
