| Help! My livewell pump will not turn off. The switch is an on-off-on rocker style switch with the top being recirc on front livewell, middle is off and bottom is livewell fill.
Thought the switch was bad so I pulled the leads - pump still runs. I had to disconnect battery to get it to stop. Tested different switch - same issue.
I have had the boat for 6 years never a problem. Any ideas. Seems the energy is bypassing the switch?? |

| You got a short somewhere. You'll have to trace the wires back from the pump to find it. Look for anyplace the wires go through anything metal, like a bulkhead. They probably rubbed through the insulation of the wire. If you have a glass boat, that would kinda rule that out, but you should still look for any bare or chaffed wires..

| Could the short be inside the motor housing? i checked the wires to the best of my ability and found them well protected |

| No, the short cannot be in the motor housing of the pump. The pump is getting 12 volts from somewhere. You need to find out where. Either a wire got crossed, or is connected where it shouldn't be. Check the wires with a voltmeter at the switch when they are off. None should have 12 volts.
Where do you live? |

| Live in Point. Plan to get out the meter and start investigating further. There is a fuse panel tucked way back under the steering wheel - maybe something has crossed there??. I have a new switch on order as well. Wierd thing is I never touched any of the wiring on this boat. Some rough rides recently jarred something.
Thanks for your feedback. |

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | do you have another switch somewhere in the boat, like up front? If you do, and that is the problem, don't feel bad, it got me to. |

| Umm, I had to replace the dashboard switch anyway.....
Do I feel silly. And I use the front switch all the time.
Thanks |

| So it was the front switch that was on? Way to call it, nightmare! I've only had one in my boats, so never thought of that. Ain't this site great? |

| The only short circuit on this one was my brain. After 3 days on the Big Pond and only a few hours sleep in between outings the idea of a pump running with the dashboard switch off was brain overload.
I always tell people, "when you hear hoofbeats think of horses not zebras" Its usually the simple things.....
Thanks nightmare, it was the horses |
