YES, you can launch a boat on lake Mendota here in Madison thanks to those heavy winds we have gotten the last few days!!! The north boat launch is open and a very large portion of the lake is wide open! How about that, close the gamefish season CASTING! This has got to be the first time in a VERY long time here in Madison! UNFORTUNATELY, I am in between boats right now because it is nice out side with little wind! Heard of a couple boats out there on saturday, bet they were the perch fisherman that have yet to hit the lake throught the ice!

Monona is locked tight with perch jerkers still abound. Mendota never really froze over so when the wind kicked up 4 + footers it tore the ice apart that was in its way.

Did see a 42 muskie at the hot water discharge last week....first sighting for me for the year.....nice fatty!

Give the Wisconsin River a try below the DuBay Dam, landing is in awesome shape. Last week there were about 25 boats out there during the real warm days. Sounds like they are getting the walleyes on jig and fatheads. They have been putting in there for weeks.

Thanks Jerry but I am actually heading over to Nebraska with Jamie schmidt to shoot some snow geese this weekend!
Good luck-

Yeah the river has been open for a while, but you don't understand, I can't remember the last time you could close out the gamefish season on Mendota in a BOAT! very odd year!
