Hey all, going to be staying in Vermillion Bay, fishing Eagle Lake in a few weeks, and I'm scouting out some action waters, Canyon is one of the lakes I'm thinking of. Dumb question, how do I get there, and where is the launch?

Thanks!

Right in town you take the Blue Lake Loop Road, I believe it is Highway 615 North, it's right across the street from Bobbys. Drive about 15-20 Mins or so, it is past the railroad tracks. You will see the path to the launch on your left hand side, it is easier to back down from the start of the Path instead of turning around with very limited area on the bottom. Enjoy, and please stop talking about my favorite lake on the internet from now on

Canyon is a great lake. It's Highway 647 north thou Since you are in the area, you may also consider hitting Forest Lake. I think there is a launch just past the dam that feeds into Canyon Lake. To get to the dam, simply go straight (couple of miles) at the railroad tracks instead of turning towards Canyon's launch.

Caught four 'tween 45-48" on Forest during this years openning week.

Good luck!

Tone...Im curious, Forest is about the only lake I really struggled to catch fish on in that chain of lakes, what was your main technique if you don't mind me asking?

"Guest", Sorry it took a while for me to get back to you, been ultra busy at work.

I didn't take that odd of an approach on Forest. I got all of them casting, but I will be the first to admitt that I am pretty new to trolling (so I didn't troll a lot). In as many places that I could find, I would start off in 20+ feet of water, then cast shallow AND cast deep. Topwater moved a lot of fish, with "walk the dog" lures out-catching prop baits. Bucktails worked early (black w/gold blade), then larger cranks and DDD's were the ticket.

There is a huge one off of the small island...got her to follow, but wasn't ready to bite

hope this helps!

it's the first left turn past railroad tracks....before getting to McIntosh Lodge. McIntosh is in the same bay.

From Vermilion Bay, take Highway 647 North for 15 miles. McIntosh Lodge is the first place past the railroad tracks. If you see their entrance, you went past the launch.

As to launching your boat, check it out before you back up. Some of the sand may be fairly soft, which could cause you to get stuck. The water may also be too shallow to launch your boat, as it a few years ago. We did it anyway, only to find it difficult to load the boat (look for a little pocket).

If you do fish the lake, you may want to go through the tunnel.....if so, go slow and raise your motor, as I've heard the lake is a little low this year.

I've never launched on Forest lake, but have fished it. Consider casting top water in shallow bays.....who knows there may muskies enjoying the sun in less than 2 feet of water.

Hope that helps.

Was on Canyon a few weeks ago 7/3 and the tunnel may be hard to get through as the water is very low. There guy I was with bumped and dinged up his prop going thru there. Got to raise it up so far that it made boat controll almost impossible.

Good luck.
