| I have an 06 Tuffy Esox Magnum C with a 115 E-Tech. It seems to plane out very quickly and runs a healthy 56-57 mph (50 on the gps). At full throttle it's pulling about 5700 rpms. It's kind of difficult to trim without porpoising. The prop is a standard aluminum (13.2x19). Can I run a higher pitch to keep it from porpoising, and maybe lift the bow out of the water a little more? I don't think power is and issue, it just feels like that prop is displacing water too quickly. Open for suggestions, Thanks Gordo. | |

| You're going to need a stainless prop. While you're getting good hole shot, and WOT MPH, the proposing is caused by the aluminum prop not being able provide enough bow lift. Blade flex is one of the reasons. I'd ask your dealer to help you set it up. He should have some demo props. What is the Max RPM for that motor? If it's 5500, I'd say start with a small diameter 3 blade, 19 pitch, like a LaserII. Not sure what Evinride offers for props, but Merc has a great lineup. Try out the demo's until you get your best perofrmance.
Also, what hole is your motor mounted in. You could try lifting it one hole, and see if that helps, but your RPM's will go up a few hundred. Be careful on your water PSI if you lift the motor higher.
Steve Worrall should be able to offer help, and perhaps Steve Van Lieshout will chime in. He has a console Magnum, too.

| Sorry about the delay in my reply, I was out of my home the last couple of days. The operating range for this outboard is 5500-6000, and it is mounted in the top hole. I don't think I really want to move the mounting position if I can help it. I would also like to stick with aluminum, because I plan on fishing a lot of new water this year. If I chew up a prop that's better than chewing up a prop and bending the shaft in the lower unit. I thought about trying a 12.75x21 or a 14x21 to get a little more bite. Thanks Gordo | |
