About time!! I was having one of the biggest muskie slumps... As most of you know i'm still relatively new to muskie fishing.. ..I've caught all my fishing trolling and not a one casting. Going into last season and into this season (according to my log) i was 0 for 22 casting for muskies. I got to play netman alot, but as for me putting a fish in the boat was non-existent. Anyways, went up to mercer for the week with the in-laws. Had a blast!! I didn't get to do alot of muskie fishing, spent alot of time crappie fishing with the family but the one morning i drug the wife out of bed really paid off. After maybe 15 casts Jen (the wife) had a shortie follow her bucktail in, which got we excited and kept her casting for another hour or so. She took a short break, which gave us time to find a newspot. Into her 3rd cast, she says i think i have weeds or a fish. Goes to pull on the rod and little does she know sets the hook on the fish. I look over and see the fish turns broadside and was like holy (expletive).. ..IT'S ON! The first couple minutes she was freaking out, "WHAT DO I DO, WHAT DO I DO!!" Then she calmed down and did a great job, just before it made a full air jump right in front of the boat and went down to 15 feet of water. I thought the rod was gonna break! After about a 5-7 min fight got the fish in the net and had a successful release. After a smoke and laugh went back to casting in the same area. No more than 10 casts over a rockbar, i raised and stuck a 38 on the first turn of a 8. The wife saw the whole thing and was amazed that a fish would hit so close to the boat. That was my first fish casting and first fish on an 8. After a good fight, we had another successful release. After another muskie break we went back to casting but only for another 30 minutes. Jen wanted to get back the cabin for story time! She was sooo excited!! (maybe this will be a good excuse to get a boat now!!!) The day goes by and i went back out with the father in-law casting for northerns. We started to see fish floating on the surface with bit marks, first a perch then a half eaten bluegill. I caught a 27 inch northern that had a huge hit mark on it. I left my muskie gear on the dock and had one bucktail in my bass box. So thought why not, I’ve got 50 lb Power pro, shouldn't be a problem. After about 5 minutes of casting had a lower 40's looker... Tried a couple more spots, it was starting to get dark and the mosquito’s were starting to come out. As we were packing up my father in-law see a tail fine poke out the water about 15 ft from the boat, "cast over there" First cast, i just get hammered!! I'm using a st'croix avid 6"6" medium rod with a pfluger reel. Talk about a great time!!! After a good 10 minutes of wrestling this fish around we get it tired enough to net. I don't know what happened if i had a net malfunction or the fish chewed through it, but next thing i know is the fish out of the net and the line is going through it, what a bad situation. Thankfully the fish was tired enough to hand land. Popped a couple hooks out and took a measurement, 40 right one the nose!! I didn't bring my camera didn't plan on throwing for big fish.. But still an awesome day and the wife is still stoked about getting her first fish!! Well that's a long post, but if you read it all the way, Get back to work!!! Here's a couple pics..

Congratulations Scott!

That's the way to get the ball rolling. Way to stick with it, too. After 0 for 22 you end up with three landed for the weekend between you and the Mrs. You also got to snuggle with an extra one, because your wife wouldn't hold it. You'll probably get a couple dozen more before the year's over.

I have to ask, were you chumming?

I'm 0 for 6 casting. Maybe I should take the wife fishing.

Kevin

Scott's plan worked, mine should too.

Cool stroy Scott.

Time on the water will allow you chances.

More time = more chances.

I've learned my lesson! It's happend to me 2 other times. All when i wake up early, i think the problem is that i'm not giving my body enough sleep. Man i'm getting old.. At least not as old a slamr..

I think i'm getting a boat next year at this rate!!! The wife is still all fired up about her fish. Maybe a couple more fish would increase my budget.
