Location: se wi | How tough is it to fix chips in fiberglass? A buddy is looking to buy a used boat that has some 1/2" chips in the bottom of it. Is this something he should worry about? Will it compromise the structural integrity if left like that too long? It's a Ranger.

| are the chips in the gel coat, or actually into the fiberglass?
here's some threads with good information.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I'd hope the 'half inch chips' are a diameter measurement and not a depth measurement.
I believe Ranger makes a gel coat repair kit. I know the info on the threads lambeau posted were a big help to me when I did some work on my boat over the winter.
To answer your question: yes, he should get this done. It's not that hard to do.
The work I did didn't turn out real pretty, but hey, it's all below the water line. good luck, m
