Subject: LOTW or Mille Lacs?

It looks like I may have an oportunity to go to LOTW from July 12th to the 16th. I believe this to be about "Prime Time" up there. I've been there before, and loved it, but I was there later in the year.

I also was planning on being on Mille Lacs August 7th to the 12th. I have not been there before, and I have no idea what to expect. I've had days on LOTW where I put hooks in 5 or 6 fish. It sounds like you don't have too many days like that on the big pond, but I don't know.

My question is this:
While you all know that I'll do my darndest to squeeze both trips in, what would be the better choice if I did have to just pick one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Brad,

Your situation is very similar to one I faced last year. My dad and I took a hiatus from fishing LOTW last summer to fish Mille Lacs for five or six days. My God did we see big fish! Three days = 37, 40, 41, 43, 45, 49! I mean great fishing and all on topwater (except the 43). BUT, we fished two areas, caught fish from one. We saw the same trailers day after day. We were among 10 other boats at times.

LOTW has big fish, medium fish, small fish, big smallies and pike to make it interesting. There's the peace and quiet of it all; the scenery. How well do you know LOTW? How well do you know Mille Lacs? Which do you feel more confident in fishing? What do you want? Big fish, period? Or a legit shot a big fish (50"+), action from smaller guys (yes, you can have a lot of action on Mille Lacs, but...), navigating around islands at sunset on a glass calm evening, interesting structure to cast at (not just a big expansive weedbed or a few rock bars)?

It's your decision, but you can probably see what I've chosen...

Location: Athens, Ohio
ML avoids the hassle of crossing the border and the limited services available at LO, but The Wudz has scenery and less pressure that can't be found in that part of Minnesota. m

I guess the LOTW trip is going to have to wait. The cost is a bit higher than expected, and I'm curious to see what Mille Lacs offers. Besides, I'll need to go to LOTW next Fall for the Muskies Inc. Fall Board meeting anyway.

Mille Lacs, here I come.

Now to get that passport for LOTW next year....................

I'll be at Mille Lacs in August for the Muskies Inc. Chapter Challunge. I'm not sure what the fishing hours will be yet, but we are trying to schedule some evening fishing hours. We'll see what happens.
