I installed an online charger (bass pro shops model) a couple days ago and the thing gets incredibly hot. Is this normal? It gets so hot I'd burn my hand if I held it to it for just a few seconds. This worries me because I installed it fairly close to my gas tank (about 20" away in the same rear compartment. I contacted someone at Bass pro shops and was told that they install them fairly close to gas tanks regularly. He said they usually install them where ever they can find a spot which is usually in the rear of the boat close to all the dangerous stuff. Should I be worried about this?

I have a dual bank onboard charger and it gets pretty hot too. This is normal for these.

If it's in a well ventilated area and not in an enclosed compartment when in use I would think you should be fine.

Mine gets warm but not that warm. I'd make sure to leave plenty of ventilation when charging.

I would say that something is wrong, NO WAY should it get that hot! warm YES but hot enough to burn your hand NO WAY, Double Check your connections if they are OK take the Charger Back and get a new one. Getting that hot could start a fire

That's what I'm thinking John, connections are fine, must be a bad unit.

Thanks

I agree with John's comments.

I have a three bank Dual Pro, and in my previous boat had a Guest. Both get warm but in no way should they get hot enough to burn a human hand.
