| Hey, What do you guys use to throw those Mag Dawgs with? I've been an avid user of the Regular ones for some time now but would like something that would handle the bigger ones. Thanks

| I bought an 8' Md/Hvy St Croix a few years ago just for those jumbo Dawgs.
The only way to go !! |

| I use the Figs myself but would go with the Heavy instead of the Med/Hvy for the Mag Dawgs. |

| For Mag Dawgs and Pounders I use my 7'8" Frank's Custom Rods Extra Heavy Diamondback/Abu Record 60 Combo with 130 pound Cortland Bronzeback and 130 pound single strand Wishmaster casting leader |

| How much you want to spend?Production or custom?Lots of questions.Do you want it to throw other stuff? How big ?Will you throw Mags for 12 hrs a day? Will you fish in cold/below freezing weather?Lots of options and you don't have to spend a ton of money. Most important things are length and action.Longer rod will do a lot of the work(or most of it)when chucking big baits. The catapult effect. The rod needs to load right, but if too stiff(fast) the angler absorbs the brunt of the effort. How one casts has an impact as well.Lob cast or snap.Snap casts with Mags means broken rods. The rod also has to be heavy enough to properly work the bait and set the hook(at a distance perhaps).Good luck on the quest and feel free to pm me with any questions. Steve
I could list 10 different rods that would be great Dawg Rods, some custom and some production. Some under a hundy and some 4 hundy. So many rods , so little time. |

Location: Tomahawk, Wi | Whats wrong with the 7'6 heavy avid ? Perfect rod for mag Dawgs, or 8'0 heavy avid. Did you have a problem with the 7'6 ? |

Location: lansing, il | i used a 7 6 heavy avid for mag dawgs and thought it was the perfect rod, while it still works great, i made the mistake of borrowing one of hulberts proffesional edge rods one day to take the dawg for a walk....needless to say the 8 ft heavy proffesional edge rods are the way to go to throw mag dawgs all day! the oversized cork handle and grip are alot less stressful on my hands and arms. |
