Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Day one ended at 1 AM at the Hideout as the last of the 'travelers' arrived. Everyone saw fish yesterday, but few and low and slow. We moved two, but TJ now knows how to make a Perkette Glider dance after an afternoon of schooling by Beav. The front that is spinning north of here had the fish pretty quiet, but everyone had a great time by all reports.
Chuck brought out some smoked fish to the fire ring at the Hideout, and Sue made Venison Sloppy Joes. The fire was warm, conversation great, and bugs few.
Tonight we meet at 5 PM for Chuck nelson's reel clinic, to exchange information, and eat some of Chucks special foods. Then back on the water for the evening bite and to the hideout for another evening by the fire.
Watch for the Rhinelander Outing album soon!

Can you say post frontal high pressure.
Pretty cool chart graphing barometric pressure provided by Lake Link.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | There were 4 muskies caught today so far, with most of the attendees back out on the water for the evening bite. Chuck Nelson, of Pure Fishing, held a reel repair clinic, and provided a meal for the group and fixed a number of reels on the spot. Thanks Chuck! We gave a few hats, mugs, and Snowcrest Lures away tonight, with the bulk of the prizes going out tomorrow night. We have an unofficial total attendance of about 40 anglers.
The fire ring will be blazing again tonight at the Hideout, with Sue providing Hot Dogs courtesy of Tuffy Boats.
Beav and I put on a Bass Busting clinic for a few hours today while fishing muskies on an area lake with Violent Strike spinnerbaits. We had over 20 in the boat from 15 to 21". Beav got a nice pike, lost a nice muskie, and I had about the same luck.
Slamr got one, so his rig is now slimed!
Watch for Day three pictures tomorrow morning, plus the Rhinelander Outing Album.

| Obviously the group has several members that are slightly disoriented, they must be wearing all the WI garb so they can remember where exactly they are?
Wish I was there with you all, wearing WI red.
I could not stand to fish up there in all black. Talk about a walking deerfly target...

| That D50 sure takes nice shots Steve, especially indoors. Good luck fishing. | |

| Wow, I miss that Venison entree, but glad Slamr's catching muskies and not yanking my posts. Well up at 4AM tomorrow to venture north and spend a week on my homeland water, the Mighty Chip. I hope the big gals turn on this weekend and it looks like a week ahead of nice weather after some storms tonight
Todd M and I will be up there this Fall for sure. See you then!

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | Very bummed I couldn't make it to the Hideout! Guided on Mohawskin on Friday and saw a half dozen fish, put on a "weed rocket" clinic and fell asleep at the rod on a figure 8 with a mid 30's. Finished the day with the "I'm on the side of the highway and my car doesn't work phone call". When I got the "quote" (how do they sleep at night) for a 1/4 mile tow, diagnostic, relay and fuel pump, I had to have it towed back to Mosinee and learn how to drop a fuel tank and do-it-myself. Two hours and about $500 less than the dealership quote, we have running vehicles again.
It sounds like you guys had a great time! Hope to see you up there soon... and oh yeah, support small, local mechanics, most have souls.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'm glad everyone could make it, the outing was a blast. Sue and I had a great time. Beav, Slamr, the Rumbleknott team, KO, and ALL who stayed with us at the Hideout, thanks for keeping an old man company. It was a pleasure seeing everyone, meeting some new fishing friends, and confirming that muskie anglers are some of the finest people on the planet. Of course, Chuck was exceptionally generous, so were Snowcrest and Beav. All in all, I had a great time. Next year, we make this thing ALOT larger.
Sled and Norm, and all who pitched in with an open boat seat, thanks for putting some folks on the water. Theeeeeeeeeeedz, we shoulda fished crappies....Mikie and Mauser, you need to get out here to the upper midwest more often, it's good for the accent. Pappa Joe, it's a short trip to the hideout for you, no excuses.

| Hi Guys,
I guess I didn't post the musky-like activity I had on day 2. We were on Kentuck, drifting across a large deep weed bed, and I was using a chartruese-perch Squirrely Jake, tossing it shallower to the left. I got a slow lazy follow from a good mid-40s fish, and he kept looking at my figure8 but wasn't moving. When it left I casted out past it and retrieved faster, got the follow and went into a quicker figure8, this time the fish followed around and around (6 or 7 times around!), and eventually did hit the bait.
It was awesome cuz I haven't had much luck on figure8s before. So I waited for it to turn away, but before I had a safe chance to set the hooks the bait came loose.
I wouldn't call it the best follow ever, but back-to-back casts, with likely the same fish, and understanding the ability to get the fish to react differently when I brought it up the 2nd time, I was quite pleased despite the skunk in the trunk on the way home.
I am mostly receovered from the lack of sleep, and packing already to head next weekend for 3 days on Witch Bay, lake of the woods.
Anybody fished up there? (Witch Bay Lodge) sounds like we're doing the fancy-pants full meal plan and everything.
Later,
papa joe | |
