| This past weekend I fished the MRG tournament up in Vilas county. Once again, Mike pulled off a great event - even better than last year which was exceptional in itself.
It's a small, 1 day (12 hrs), 100% relase tournament on Big & Little Saint, Big & Little Arb, Lost and Found. You choose the lake you want to fish.
At the rules meeting on Friday night, EVERY participant who was in attendence recieved a door prize. These door prizes were awesome - at least $30 value with some probably topping $60. One lucky guy recieved a new net - a Frabil I think.
Ken Jackson addressed the attendees and provided a multi-media presentation profiling each of the 6 lakes. After which he fielded questions.
Anyway, the tournament conditions were good. We saw double digit fish, and had one big girl up (3 times0 but couldn't get her to bite.
Of the 26 teams entered, 5 were able to get fish on the board. The winners doubled up with a 38" and 36.5" on BSG. Big fish was 39" I believe. 6 fish were caught that measured 34" or longer. (We caught several shorties but nothing that put us on the board. )
Top three teams recieve cash, nice trophies and some great 3 season tournament jackets.
After tournament hours, there was a great buffet of chicken, roast beef, and fish with a bunch of sides. Free beer and pop was available and mike had several bucket raffles and silent auction items going.
I don't know all the sponsors but those of you out there - Thanks! With your help Mike was able to put on a great tournament with a unique flavor to it which serves as a bench mark for other tournaments.

| Thanks for the kind words guys, and I along with the sponsors that work with me are glad to hear that you had a great time. Attendance was up over 20% from last year, and judging by the anglers I spoke with at the close of the event on Sat, it will probably increase another 20% or more for next years tournament. It sure sounds like a lot of fish were seen, thats for sure. The anglers that drove all the way from PA said that they had moved over 25 fish (of which three or four were 45" or better) and boated three fish that didnt make the minimum length limit.
1st Place went to Mike & Sue Smith (38" & 36 1/2"), 2nd Place went to Duane Serck & Jeff Gillis (39") and 3rd Place went to Ron & David Weidner (37 1/4.")
I cant say enough thanks to Mark G. from Frabill, River Run Tackle, Vince Bianchi, MH-Mag (Steve H,) Pfeiffer Tackle, Bradrock Baits, Stealth, Rodd Umlauf, Sherrie Tails, Shack Attack, AVC, Slo's Pub, and to all of those folks that participated with sponsorships. It is postings like yours that will keep sponsors participating with tournaments.
It is a lot of work to pull an event like this, but I have to say that the smiles on everyones faces made it all worth while. I am also very impressed with the winners, and those individuals that did land fish to share info with the rest of the anglers at the awards dinner.
Now that I have stuck a wining ticket under a chair, placed a winning ticket under the table cloth this year, I will have to come up with some other surprise technique for the tournament anglers.
Well, its off to nurse this summer time cold that I picked up. Take care, and all the best to all!
