Big Kahuna / PaceMaker

I was wondering what everybody thinks about the Pace Maker and the Big Kahuna bucktail. Both are maketing secondary sensory system stimulation. The pace maker has the klanking of the hook agianst the prop (hearing). The Big kahuna bucktail has the sent pad (smell). Do you think that this will bring more muskies in the boat?

Does anyone else feel that they are trying to be FOOLED???

I do like both of these baits but.... for other than what they are marketing.

Dude, hearing is the first sense the fish will use to detect the bait. When it gets closer it will use its lateral line to hit the bait. On the bucktail, we all know they hit bucktails, if the fish holds on one second longer giving you a better chance at a set. Ain’t it worth it?

No. Ty has tested the bait extensively, and no matter what sensory input the fish absorbs from the presentation, the Pace Maker catches fish. It is a well built bait, runs VERY well, and hooks up well.

The scent pad thing is a bit of a reach, but if it increases the confidence level of the angler, the bait will be wet more, and will catch fish. Again, a very well built bait, at a fair price.

I can get picky and indicate anthropomorphic tendencies in nearly every Lure ad campaign I have ever seen, it is the way lures are marketed due to the limited base of knowledge and the coupling of legend and lore to the angler's reality.

It is easy to tear into nearly any product's marketing campaign. Look at laundry detergent, automobiles, boats, motors, etc. These are products WE actively consume! The ads marketing these products to us are based on perception, and rarely reality.[;)]

Hmmm, I think I agree with Steve Worrall on this one. If the marketing "gimick" gives you confidence... then it is worth the investment. Some people may think it is a gimick... others may believe it is truly the reason they had success with that bait. Bottom line, I don't think anyone can prove whether those features are "gimicks" or not.

I don't have any Big Kahunas.... but I picked up one of Ty's Pacemakers in Milwuakee. Not sure if the "clackety clack" will catch me more fish or not... but I believe the bait will produce. Not sure WHY just yet... but you can bet I will be contemplating it.

These lures will obviously catch fish... the question is do the "extra" features being marketed REALLY make a difference?

I know I know I know... That they will catch fish.. I caught a Northern with a beer can once. And and and just cause everybody tricks people with marketing doesnt make it okay.

Jason Long, will confidence make up for throwing a bait thats design might deter fish from striking..KLANK KLANK KLANK?????? Or will it make up for not making a lure change when nessesary?[]

I am not saying that I know that these lures wont work. Actually I am going to experiment with both this year. I am just making an educated guess that the marketing of these lures is a joke! WE WILL SEE [] []

These are just my thoughts I could and very well may be wrong.[:halo:]

Thinker...I've caught redfish on hotdog chunks + stripers on chicken livers...would I do it again...NEVER...I eat food now + will go fishless before I go hungry! Things I have bought that didn't work:
1- a knife set from Fingerhut-pain in the butt
2- a Miracle Mop- what a flop
3-a Mail Order Bride- good for 1 ride
The only thing I have ordered that was good was the "Chinese Hand Hammered Wok"...a beautiful piece of machinery! Though a bait may not catch me fish, which I think this one will...I buy it for the looks + workmanship...I can throw a bait all day w/ no results + someone can pick up that same bait + BINGO..fish on! I hope they will catch me one...if not I'll still be happy w/ them. I think I canIthinkIcanIthinkIcan.....

I really don't "know" if either of these things will help put more fish in the boat or not. However I not only fish for Muskies but have an extensive background fishing Bass and Bass tourneys. I have won my share of these in the past as well as more than a few Muskie tournaments. Scent and sound definatley maks a difference with other spieces such as Bass and maybe Walleye. Both are preditors, I think that Muskies have a certain amount of these things in common with other preditory fish. How do you explain the action of a Muskie following your lure very closely and seemingly
" mouth" the bait as if tasting it but not actually striking? This is quite a common occurence here in the waters I fish. Could it be that scent on the lure would help? I don't know the answer but I am sure going to try it. The same holds true for sound, maybe more so. I have seen where a rattle in a jig can make all the difference in the world at times. Both good and bad, leaves me wondering if I will ever figure any of this out. I for one believe that scent and sound used at the right time may just put one or two more fish in the boat sometime. Works for other spieces in fresh and salt water, why not Muskies?

However you catch 'em...

LOL... Esoxstinker, Sorry no mullets here... I’m 6’ tall 190lbs and quite handsome. Never been caught, so no jail time for me. Yes, I have a very good job; I’m a freelance musky board surfer. I look for fools like you who claim ridiculous things. I then point out to them how dumb they really are. [:sun:]

The one main reason that I grabbed a Pacemaker as soon as I saw it, is the fact that when I use buzz baits for bass, the addition of a 'clacker' or bending the shaft to make the prop knick the shaft, seemed to draw greater attention from farther away and really seemed to make a good lure better.
I'm willing to invest some cash and will bet that the 'clacking' of the Pacemaker will yield some fish for me this year.
Sure, subtle top-waters catch fish too. But if you're gonna make a racket, well then MAKE A RACKET!!!

Next,

I am 230 and a hook, POINDEXTER. Solid as a dump after Thanksgiving dinner.

By the way, FYI, I heard of a great lure idea you should try. It is a lure that makes bubble sounds. Its powered by a aaa battery. You should try it. They say it works better than the Banjo Minnow and the flying lure combined!. NO JOKE.[]

I am still in amazement......jlong agrees with Worrall on something....lol[]

I have both baits and I will pitch both with confidence this next season. Both are built well and will catch fish.

Hi,

I agree with Steve Worrall. Also,I was looking at the charts at Herman's Landing when I was up there fishing last year, and Ty seemed to catch alot of fish on that bait so it must be pretty good!

Thanks,
Don
