| Until next year, I'm limitted to using a 1978 Chrysler 120hp motor. It actually runs like a top, but the lower unit needed the seals replaced. Usually that's a job that they can complete in a couple of hours.
After two weeks at the shop, I began to get a little concerned, so I stopped in there. It seems that since the motor is so old, they are no longer making those parts, and they shop has yet to find someone who has them. The motor may actually be unrepairable. Kind of stinks when you have a motor that actually runs like a dream, but is unusable for other reasons.
If anyone out there knows of a place that may have just the seals for this motor, can you let me know? I looked at TwinCity Outboards for a whole Lower Unit, and they wanted $750-800.00 for it. Tho whole motor in good working order wouldn't even sell for that much. Thanks for any advice you have. |

| If you are looking for a lower unit, maybe you should check out ebay.
My nephew bought one there last year for an older Merc and I believe he paid under $200. It's worth a look every few days.

| I thought at that time, that I did need a new lower unit, but it seems that there was just a broken locking ring inside. The deal that holds the prop shaft in place had snapped. That is also a part that is unavailable, but they were able to weld it back together.
The gears that I thought were wrecked, were actually fine. Even if I did get a new lower unit, it would be quite old, and there would be no guarantee that the prop seals on that one would be in good working order either. The guy is still looking, but it's beginning to look like I'll have a motor that runs perfectly, except it won't go anywhere. That stinks.
I do have a new option available though. I picked a bunch of numbers, and if those same numbers are picked tomorrow night, I'll be a millionairre! Then all my problems will be solved. Wish me luck. Ha ha. |

| There is a guy who runs a shop out of his garage that might have the parts or a lower unit. He specializes in OMC, but when I was there last he had a chysler (not sure of the size).
M&S marine. (Matt and Stan) They advertise in the trading times, but the hard copy not the online one.
I will see if I can dig up the number. He is in st. charles IL
Thanks
Chris

| I thought my gears were ruined, but it was only a retaining clip deal that was busted. I called the guy today and told him to put everything back together. I'm gonna try to limp through this year by changing the lower unit grease after each time on the water, and trying to use the electric as much as possible. It could be weeks before he's able to find the parts I need. I'll keep looking in the meantime, and I thank you for the information.
Right now I need to go pick up some Power Pro so I'll be ready for the Bass opener this weekend. I get to ride along in my brother's new boat, which is better than sitting at home watching fishing shows on TV. Later. |

| Forgot to mention that I tried the Parts Finder on that IBoats site. That is an awesome resource to have access to, but they didn't have what I needed either. Thanks anyway. |

If anyone would have the part, they would. Based out of Shakopee, MN.
believe the website is: http://www.twincityoutboard.com
Give them a call and see if they have your parts. They probably would have the seals as well.

| I had called Twin City Outboard, and they wanted $750-$800.00 just for a lower unit, and the guy I talked to couldn't guarantee the seals would be good on that unit.
I strongly doubt that an entire 1977-78 Chrysler 120hp motor in good working order would even sell for what they wanted just for the lower unit. If anyone wants mine for that price, send me a PM and it's a deal.
I"ll get through this year with it and get something else with next year's tax return. Thanks for all the tips everybody. |

Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Brad, it should not be that great a problem to have the seals made. Check out a good industrial hydraulics shop to see what they can do. I have in the past had a lot of hydraulic seals custom made and they were always top notch.

| I might just do that. I can take them out right after the season ends and see what I can do over the winter. If I can't get it done, I'll look at a new rig. Thanks. |
