While communicating via email this morning with Muskie Historian Larry Ramsell about the final rules for registering a World record Muskie, I received this picture and a short story about the fish. Larry has recently returned from a muskie trip to new water, and a successful one at that! Here's what he had to say about the CPR of his 54X24 giant:

"Pig story: New water (to me). Spent tuesday figuring it out and got a 40"
and found the "spot on the spot" and nailed the big girl on a Llungen Tail
at 9:15 a.m. (my partner missed another BIG one 15 minutes earlier on
another "key" spot. Chad's Musky Armor gloves saved my fingers (cut in
finger of glove and not on finger!!)."

Great fish, sir!!

Great fish Larry. I still favor the 57" with you in the drink. This one is a nice catch too though. Good luck the rest of the year.

Thanks for posting Steve and thanks to all, it was quite a thrill. You always "hope" for the big one on new water (in Michigan), but to have it actually happen is beyond description.

A bit more to the story; I thought sure I was going to lose her as she tried to get into the motors. I got her out once but the second time I just couldn't turn her even with my new 8 1/2 foot Diamondback rod. She got around the motor and I was waiting for the line to part, but the 80 pound Cortland Spectron held even though later examination showed that she had it cut part way (my 5 blade prop looks like 5 saw blades, so you can see why I was worried!). Once she was in the Stowmaster, I felt a lot better!

Still didn't realize how big she was, but I knew our first estimate of 48 was "off." She was built like a railroad tie and it was difficult to judge her length. She hit 54 right on the nose lying down (I have two 3 foot aluminum rulers screwed end to end on the flat gunwhale of my BIG boat...no on the carpet or vertical measuring for me). A quick girth measurement with a flexible tape and away she went in great shape!

May you all have a similar experience this season!!

Muskie regards,
Larry Ramsell

Where's the pic for this one.

found it by clicking on the attachment line on Sworrall's post.

Very nice fish, however, do I have to be the first to point out that Larry did not mention his brand of sunglasses, his boat and motor brand, his outerwear, and his leader in his post?

Great fish Larry...good job.

I didn't think that they put the GL fish in the inland lakes. Is that lake connected to the Great Lakes or is it inland?
