I got everything working well except now when the lights in the truck are on and I hit the brake the taillights go out. Otherwise the brake lights work fine with truck lights off and all signals work. Any ideas?

Probably a ground problem. Most lighting issues are. Had a similar thing this spring and it ended up being a loose connection on my truck. Check your plugs, or anyplace where there is a connection in the back of your tow vehicle before you start tearing the wiring out of the trailer.

i had the same thing happen recently only to go back to u-haul that put my wiring on and hitch on 1 yr ago and pay $90. however when i got home and tested it again , it still did the same thing so i replace both bulb capsules on my trailer only to find out that the bulb that looked ok , the filament hadnt all the way broke, was the culprit. just a light capsule for $10. oh well, live and learn i now have an additional 90 day u-haul warranty.

Had this exact same problem and it was a grounding issue. The trailer is most likely grounded throught the hitch and to the truck. I solved the problem with a wire with alligator clips on both ends clip one to the trailer and one to some metal on the truck and you should be good to go!

Your electricity is flowing in reverce. Check the slope of your trailer.

Location: Chicago, Beverly | if your hitch ball has a lot of rust that will cause grounding issues... make sure where your ground wire is connected that it has a clean ground(no rust/corrosion) and that your hitchball is free of rust/corrosion.. |
