I would suggest you exchange the bait! I tried this thing and its action is terrible! And I remember paying $18!

I've done pretty well with this bait, in limited time. I'm not sure what "action" you were looking to get out of it, but I think the bait/blade thumps pretty good for a small spinnerbait, and stay very weedless to boot.

The one thing that I have noticed is that after catching a fish on the bait, you have to make sure that everything is still aligned properly, or it may not run true.

I believe I paid around $10-$11 for each of mine . . .

The problem with the bait is that on some the swivel can pass through the wire loop and fall off. Other than that, they do thump very well but are tad smallish for my tastes.

Wondering if anything has changed with the construction of the bait. Lost a blade while throwing it and wasn't too happy last season.

not to toot my own horn, butt..........
The Sportsman in appleton has the last of the spinnerbaits i ever made. The blade or swivel does not fall off, due to construction. I have nothing to gain by telling you this, because I already sold these to him. I think he has only 5 or so left.

Yeah, me too. Our our groups last trip, there was 5 of us who brought the bait up. Every single one was useless after day two. Lost the blades on all of them.

Take some pliers and close the loop around the blades swivel. I've thrown mine quite a bit and it still has it's original blade.

I used them last season for the first time and had good success. They worked great for me swimming and jigging it near the bottom. I found this technique after picking out a birds nest...............the one bird’s nest that I got last year!!?? OK, the only one that I can remember.............

The very first time I threw mine the blade & swivel came off. Really nice... Doesn't matter if it was $10 or $100, that is absolutely un acceptable. I replaced it with my own blade & HD swivel. Won't buy another, thats for sure.

Never had a problem, but I fish for bass quite a bit too, so before I threw the spinnerbait or the buzzbait I tuned them both. I made sure everything was in line, and I did notice that the gap where the swivel went was a bit too big for my liking, so I tightened it with pliers. Sounds like I was lucky that I did. The rivot on one of the buzzers was also stuck at an angle so the blades wouldn't turn smoothly, so I had to do some pre-fishing maintanance on that too. Quality control.

I found out the hard way that you get what you pay for! Check out www.nugtackle.net for a high quality lure that is similar to the slopmaster, only it will last for many seasons! I bought one to try it and it performed beyond my expectations. I am going to buy a few more for this season!

I totally agree on the get what you pay for comment. I usually try to find handmade versions of all the different bait types I need as they are usually much higher quality.

My hats off to ALL the basement bait makers that keep putting out the highest level of quality baits for us to choose from.

I had problems with the first couple I had, but also did very well wioth them on some of the biggest muskies in the boat the past couple seasons. I take a heavy pliars and bend the little end past the shaft, then bring it back. It will now have a bit more spring, holding it to the shaft. I do this on all of the ones I own. My buddy makes a bait similar to the slopmaster in design, and does the same thing on his(G.P. Thumpers). The swivel itself is just fine.

Well Said Musky Snax! All the basement bait makers are the ones who put passion into each lure; they are not the ones who are worried about the bottom line. I would rather buy 1,000 lures from the little guy before I buy one from a big manufacture. Keep up the good work guys and your fellow anglers will support you!

I should point out that I do not make baits; I don't have the time or the patience. But I will pay for quality over quantity every time!

I believe that Roberts Outdoors has addressed this issue, or so I've heard. I've never thrown a Slopmaster, so I can't base anything off of my own experiences. But from what I've seen on the new Slopmasters, it does look like the blade/swivel should hold up fine. But like with any bait, I'd check it over before I make that first cast.
