Bought a new boat that came with a X-15. Is it a good unit? Any tips? I am land locked until the guy who bought my boat takes it out of my garage. ( Can't pick up my boat until the other one is gone.) 10 long days.

I to bought a boat with an x15. I have done all the work on it for you. Besides understanding how to work it, you have to call up lowrance and get the frimware update. The cost is free, but they do ask for a credit card as a security deposit on the chip. When you get the chip load it in and turn it on. The software will then load to the unit. Once that is complete you can then get the awesome Lake master pro maps 99 bucks it blows away the classic chip by navionics. I just bought Wisconsin and am total impressed with the detail on the map. It has 58 high def wisconsin 200+ enhanced maps and over 11000 other lakes. You can find detail below.

Had an X15 on previous boat and absolutely loved it. Not sure, but I think Thornes or other dealers can update the software for you for free, if its even necessary (I never did). Like the man said, the LakeMaster chips are excellent, too.

If you have a MMC card, and a card reader, you can do the update yourself from Lowrance website. Pick on software, and look for your unit under product updates. Just follow the directions. Works like a charm.

The X-15 is a great unit. Very good resolution and features, and a nice big screen. You can display both map and sonar, and read both easily. You're going to like it alot.

I had one on my last boat, I kept it and put it on my new boat. I love it. I have not updated the software, haven't found a reason to, mine works just fine and I really like it. Mine was new in late summer of 2002.

Enjoy, you'll like it.

Wish I had an X-15. I saw my first one on Ace's boat on Lake Vermilion. That is one sweet unit!
