split ring tip

A buddy got me hooked on placing a split ring between the line and leader. It prevents the leader from being pulled into the eye as I begin the figure 8. Works great, especially at night.

Now they just need to make a padded split ring. So when I am night fishing, I don't ruin my tip.

I ram the leader into my rod tip once every four or five casts at night.

I have seen night fishing leaders at Gander Mtn, they have a large glow bead on them so you can see it.

The split ring is a great idea. I fish at night some, and get irritated with the swivel running through the tip top. I never thought of a split ring, that will work!!

Glow bead ahaed of the split ring, and it is bulletproof.

For night fishing try putting a slip bobber knot a couple feet ahead of your leader. You will get used to feeling it pass through your tip top guide and know to go into a fig 8

Great tip ranger, I have tried placing a large bead but need a slip knot too. I am forever doing it because I can't see 1ft in most of the water I fish.
