still hopeful. Spent six great hours working over Pewaukee Lake with Joel. Trolled some and casted a lot. Had two backlashes that required some picking. Several close to, but not of the picking variety. Worked two of the Daimondbacks, one with a 400B and one with a Record, utilizing a number of baits. I'm pleased with the equipment. It probably has some doubts about me.

Alas, the fish were not cooperating. One 40"+- tried to stare one of the suckers to death, but after 4-5 minutes gave up. Cool to see right at the back of the boat.

It was nice to meet and get to know Joel a little bit. Thanks to him for showing me what it takes to fish muskies, and for listening to my incessant babbling. Talk about staying power, he fished more than 24 hours over the last two days. Anyone with a chance to share some boat time with him would be well advised to do so. A beautiful day one in my musky career.

Now I have to go. I need a little Japanese woman to walk on my back and work the kinks out of my shoulders. Man, I'm old.

Kevin

Plan? I don't need no stinking plan. I'm a man of action.

Kevin, nice talking with you today. Maybe the handshake was bad mojo...Seems like most people struggled today.

Take Care

God, I hate the sucker death stare. Glad to hear that you arent too discouraged with your first outing. They are out there and I think a lot of people had trouble putting many fish in the boat. A lot of fish seen from what I have heard. The planning never ends....its just a matter of being able to adapt the game plan to 50 different situations that you never saw coming. Im learning that the hard way. You planning on hitting the water next weekend at all? If so drop me a PM and we can meet up for a few at Smokeys or the Waterfrong.

Exactly why I never fish with suckers. Artificial only for muskies.

Kevin, I had a blast on Sunday. Sorry we couldn't put one in the boat, but we'll get it done soon.
I do have to say that for his first time musky fishing, Kevin picked things up pretty quick, including tightening the drag down so that the line would actually come IN when he reels. LOL He worked his baits really well for never seeing them, and even developed a couple of favorites I think. Bucktails seemed to shine for him. (which is probably good, as a mag dawg would be a bit tough to throw for hours on end your first time out).

Next time yell at me for not video taping a fish off the back of the boat staring at our sucker. I thought it was going to eat a couple of times, but no deal. Oh well. It was definitely cool to watch. I guess that's what keeps us coming back for more punishment.

We'll definitely do it again Kev!

mskchs,

Why would you say that:"Exactly why I never fish with suckers. Artificial only for muskies."

Of the 5 that come into my boat this past weekend all were on suckers. I feel the people who have not tried it would be surprized at how cool it is to watch the suckers go bonkers as a muskie zeros in on them. Most of the hits you can watch. Thats very cool if you have not seen it yet.

I love to cast and when the water temps stay under 65 degrees, I will always run a sucker or two. Try it you might change you mind. 3 muskies in just minutes can't be done casting. Your netting fish and looking for the camera, release tools, measuring stick, etc. With suckers out you can still be fishing while doing all the above.

I woould be glad to steer you in the rite direction if your interested.

I have to agree with the extreme one. By not using suckers in spring and fall some people are missing some great opportunities.

I obviously agree with both Mike and Dave. If I would have though of it a few minutes sooner, I would have taped that stare down. Would have been some cool footage to see how it was reacting to the sucker. Next time.....
