Okay, I never seen a pair of these anywhere and I really don't understand why. I've used the X-Tractor and that ended up rusting out and you can always get the 6" or 7" in stainless steel. Can anyone give me a site or anything to find these?

Thanks,

I use the longer version of the Baker Hook-outs. They will rust after time as well, but they are inexpensive to replace. Easy to grab a hook and pull it free as well. If that does not work right away, its on to the knipex.

I bought a straight pair and a bent pair of 11 inch pliers at Gander Mountain, cheap to like 6.99 a piece.

I also know Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc.. carry them.

You can also check Ace Hardware, E-bay, and Wal-Mart at times will have them.

Here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/4pc-PROFESSIONAL-11-LONG-NEEDLE-NOSE-PLIER-SET-...

Buy 4 of them since they are cheap. Keep two for yourself, and give two to a newbie just starting out that doesn't realize the importance of these tools.

Guys I'm trying to stay away from the pliers that aren't stainless steel. I've gone through so many pairs throughout the last 5 years that it is unbelievable (everyone probably has this problem). The regular ones always rust out and then its off to the store to buy another pair. I'd like to pay $50 or whatever they cost because this is almost a necessity for stainless steel.

These have a lifetime warrany but are not stainless.

"Forged from 1060 Carbon based special tool steel, all Crawford pliers are made in the U.S.A., corrosion protected, and individually inspected for quality. Lifetime Warranty."

Get a good set of regular pliers(Klein, Knipex, Craftsman..etc.) and just coat it with something like "Birchwood Casey Barricade" or "The Inhibitor" stuff.. if it does start to rust get a wire brush and clean up with that then reapply either of the above two things...

http://www.theinhibitor.com/

For both Inhibitor and the Barricade I reccomend getting either the spray or the bottle, the cloths are not as good in my experience... I leave my 11" needlenose in my boat all year, by seasons end it is just starting to get a bit of rust... so in the offseason I clean it up as I mention above with a wire brush...

Slimm and Kevin, thanks a ton! I'm actually in the process of buying those stainless steel pliers and I'm thinking about putting some Inhibitor on it. Actually I'm from the Rockford area where Inhibitor originated and I work at Dick's so I can get some pretty cheap!

Good ideas guys!

Do you think adding Inhibitor to the pliers will hurt the pliers in any way?

I doubt it.

Another trick for rusty pliers is soaking them overnight in transmission fluid

The combination of oil and detergent not only helps remove the rust, but it cleans out the rust from where the two halves go together. After you soak them, open and close them a bunch of times, then wipe 'em off good and they'll work just fine.

I might try that rust inhibitor stuff, though -- got a bottle sitting in the garage collecting dust...

not sure if these are stainless or not, but convenient.

also, i'll agree with others on Inhibitor being great stuff, that actually works, and is inexpensive.
even easier than applying the liquid form is to get the VCI Pro Chips.
stick a couple in the storage compartment with your pliers (and lures) and you will be rust-free.
