I've used mine a couple of times this year already. Well, mine once, maybe Lambeau's the second time. Not sure whose they were, but they rock regardless.

I'm thinking one should have a lanyard with all the cut hooks, like keeping the tags for ducks. We have a bin full of them.

Here is a link to some Knipex bolt cutters. Any of the 3 on top will work great. Just DON"T get end cutters.

Mike is right on with that. Pretty good prices too. The spring loaded ones are great in that you cut, and they open up for you. That being said, I have the standard ones (on the top) and they work like a charm. It's like cutting butter with them.

You might want to get a second pair for spare's. Also tie a rop through them and put you hand through it before cutting hooks! I know I have a pair on the floor of LOTW!

If you have the time, drill a hole through one of the handle ends (it can be done, although it will take a while). Then, go to walmart into the shoe department and get the coiled shoe laces (pretty colors if you want, black, white, glow, etc). tie them together to get one big coiled line, tie to boat, tie to knipex, no knipex lost.

The coil will only be about 18 inches long when not in use, but will extend to almost 6 feet.

I have the spring loaded pair and there is a wire to hold them closed when not in use so a lanyard can be easily attached. Definately wouldnt want a pair of these on the bottom of the lake...i get pissed when a 15 dollar pair of sun glasses falls in!

I have a 4' rope attached to mine with a carribeaner on the other end. Net a fish, clip the carribeaner on the net, and Knipex hooks. That way, the fish starts thrashing, hooks the rope, I can drop the Knipex without being attached to them & won't lose them.

Hey Mike,

Don't chug a bunch of beers and try to cut out your own tonsil. Leave that to the experts.

Minor surgery as part of the plan.

Warning...that wire loop to hold the cutters closed is not very strong. the wire does not run all the way through the handle either, so if the fish thrashes, and somehow that wire comes off, your out a knipex. Drill the hole out and add a lanyard.
