Subject: hooks in you

I cringed when I read another fellow's post - he said he fished muskies with sandles on his feet. I was once attached to a suick while a 36" musky was still on the other end. The fish flopped and ripped the hook out of my finger, I was very lucky to not sustain a real injury. (As it was, the blood flowing down my arm made for a great photo![:)] ) Any good "I was hooked bad horror stories out there"?

Canadian Fly-in 1997 I had a + 5lb Smallie hanging from my ring finger w/hook from #11 Rapala imbedded to the bone. Needless to say I killed the fish by kneeling on it to stop it from flopping around. Had to pull the hook myself- my fishing buddy couldn't do it - after he got the fish detached, he was a bit green around the gills. I had him hold my finger down & I pulled the hook. Man it felt sooooo good when that hook popped out.[] Some bandaid's + disinfectant and back to fishing. That bass was tasty! Even though I would have liked to release her.

Now, because I fish alone a lot- I am 100% barbless. Makes the releases a lot easier too! Plus I really don't think my catch rate has changed because I'm barbless.

I also have hook remover kit in my tackle box with me, just in case it's needed- see Cabela's Spring 2002 catalog pg #73 + read the instructions before you need to use it. Plus First Aid Kit, i.e., bandaids antibiotic creme- disinfectant. That was first thing my wife bought me when I got the ESOX Mainiac water toy, i.e., big First Aid kit for the boat+ hook remover stuff. She know's me after 10 years of marraige. [] Plus if you're on Fly-in there's nothing worse than ending the trip of a lifetime early over a little hook incident. [] Accidents will happen be prepared. [;)] The futher away from civilization/professional medical help, the more prepared you should be. If you're going on extended Fly-in consider adding a the First Aid items on page 269 of the Cabela's Catalog.

I am not really affiliated w/ Cabela's - the Catalog came in the mail other day & I remembered the sections when I saw this thread.

After the incident in Canada w/ the Smallie. I just can't imagine the deep sh*t you'd be in w/ a angry Muskie hanging from your body via an imbedded hook. [:0]
