Location: Lou's Bay on the 'goon | I was down at the new dock staring at about 300 yards of Ice free water.. it's been a long winter. Since I had some new baits and NO I wasn't trying to catch a fish but rather look at lure action while the Wabigoon water is clear and you can see the bait. (No wave action yet) So what is the correct way to fish a Doc? It has a Nice twitch action. Doesnt seem to walk side to side much. Possibly a Weagle would make a good playmate? Any opinions? How about favourite walk the dog style. All opinions appreciated. Gonna be a great year.
Next time your on 'goon in Lou's Bay, drop in for a beverage and bring a story. |

| Get a trueglide Heckler. Best walk the dog topwater I own. |

| I've been on the water a few times when Phat Boys were getting more action than Topraiders. I don't use walk-the-dog baits as much as I probably should. I've been happy with Thunderheads, Topraiders, Phat Boys, Hawg Wobblers, and Topwalkers.
Hawg Wobbler is tough to beat as a throw back bait. |

| Never thrown a Doc, but I do own a Weagle. The latter is difficult at first to get the hang off. Personally, I like to cover more water with zig-zag baits, and the Weagle doesn't lend itself very well to that. You really can't force that thing back in a hurry. If you want something that zig-zags consistently and swings 180 degrees every time, can't beat Dunwright's Top Dancer. OMG!!! Having said that, I wouldn't trade my little Phat Boy for the world. Both are small and both don't require much to get them working. Just my .02 cents. |

| The doc is a good walk the dog topwater. Stays in the water better but does run nose up like a jackpot. More of a search bait than the Weagle. The Weagle is a slower slashing bait that throws water and makes the "swoooosh" noise. Very effective when you have a fish located. An absolute must have. |

Location: Otsego, MN | I like the docs when there is a little more wave action on the water as a walk the dog bait. I use the weagle primarily working it slow and violent. I have had most of my walk the dog action on the jackpot with some also coming on the Dancin Raider. |

Where can you get these trueglide Heckler? |

Location: The Yahara Chain | The current Weagles, that are available at some vendors, are easier to work than the old ones. The Weagle is the #1 WTD bait IMO. Check out the link below for more opinions about the Mojo Weagles.

The Heckler throws a huge amount of water and makes a Killer"Swoosh" sound. It's really easy to work and can be fished as fast as you want or as slow. Even in place.
It also has a great wobble and flash.
If I were going to choose just between the Weagle an dthe Doc though. I would definitely take the Weagle ( New or old-same thing!).

| There's at least 14 different WTD baits listed in the latest Rollie & Helen's catalog. Some are short, some are over 9 inches long, some are lighter, some are almost 5 ounces, some have three trebles, some have two. I see a lot of talk here about the Weagle, but I think the reason there are 14 baits listed there, is that people have different preferences.
I'd personally prefer a smaller bait, while some people can't seem to find them big enough. Some people think a lighter bait won't get thrown by the fish as easy as a heavier one. Who knows?
I just don't think that anyone can say without a doubt, that ANY one of those lures is the best. They're tools, and everyone uses them in their own way. Just my $0.02 |
