| Just curious to see if anyone has tried out things they've gotten this year (i.e. baits, graphs, boats, rods/reels, etc.) and what you like/dislike about them. This has the POTENTIAL to get ugly, but this post is not meant to bash a product. If anything, say you're having a problem getting a bait to work properly or having technical difficulties, maybe some of us can lend a hand. Anyway, here are some of the new and exciting things I've gotten this year.
8' St. Croix MH Premier: great rod - good backbone, length is awesome, butt section is perfect length for me (6'), and can toss a wide variety of baits.
Muskihntr's fluoro leaders: Very well tied, high qual components. Thanks, John!
Musky_Slayer's Houdini: Wow... was able to try these puppies out yesterday. Toyed around with hook sizes to get the perfect balance. Shhwing! Super easy to work, squirrely tail is SICK, nice consistent sound that can produce a deep POP on command.
Dunwright's Top Dancer (or whatever the WTD topwater is): Never seen a WTD style bait so incredibly easy to work. More than a 3" downward tap will make the bait blow out. Best feature that sets it apart from other WTD topwaters - ability to turn 180+ degrees on every zig and zag. Great bait for someone who has a difficult time working these kinds of baits.
Nimmer Swimmer Poly Wog: If anyone has ever been to the Chi-Town 'ski show you've probably been strolling around the aisles and been bombarded with the CLACK CLACK CLACK resonanting from the Nimmer booth. Well, they produce the same annoying @$$ sound in the water (annoying to me, hopefully melodious to Mrs. GiantMusky). Too slow and the bait will start rolling (anyone experience this or know how to fix it), too fast and the bait does the same thing. Takes a little practice to get the right retrieve speed down, but the sound is just SICK!
Double Cowgirl: Says big-LOTW muskie all over it. Great flair and overall action in the water. Doesn't pull too hard, either. Only thing I seem to be experiencing is the skirt material tends to "clump" up in a straight retrieve, and only flattens out when you pump the bait. Suggestions?
Can't think of anything else. Let's hear yours!

Location: Des Moines IA | About all i really got that was new to me this year was a ducktail weed warrior, I really like it, it has a great shimmy, on the way down, and back up, and it's really weedless.
Finally got my hands on a couple 2000 or older HR 8 inch shakers, they are the bomb. I see why they command so much $ .
Oh yeah, gotta give a huge thumbs up to the Perka by Beav .... I got the first Black Diamond painted by Stan Durst, awesome action, and paint, gotta love it!!!!

| Just got to try one new thing (new for me) this past Satuday. Tried the small P-Ron-Ah looks pretty good so far. I'll definitely be giving it some time in the water. | |

LMAO! I think the first time I had the boat out we forgot to put the drain plug in. And to wonder why were couldn't get on plane? Does that count as a "stupid human" thing?
Oh, and welcome to the C-liner family!

| I have not been on the water yet, as the ice just recently went off, and the Muskie season is a long way off yet in Minnesota.
I did find some stuff at Thorne Bros. while in MPLS for the MI Spring Board meeting. I thought it was about time I tried a Buldger, and also get a Marabou bucktail. I bought a Lungen tail Buldger, and a really nice TNT Marabou/Buldger that I really like. I also got a Marabou/Willow Bucktail that I think Thorne Bros. has specially made for them. Nice and big- brown/yellow Marabou with a brass willow blade.
Lure-wise, I'm ready. Now if I'd just get back the reels I've sent in for repairs.........

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | LOL. I was wondering why she would not get up on plane. Lori goes to stow the bumpers, and we find another livewell in the floor hatch!
Too funny!
God Bless bilge pumps! | |
