Location: So. Illinois | For all you folks who spend multiple days on the water, what are you using to protect yourself from the Sun? I am looking for better products, so that after spending a full day on the water, I don't feel like the sun has gotten the best of me. Looking for better sunscreen products and ideas on good clothing to wear that is comfortable when it is really hot. You guys hitting the water in T-Shirts and shorts or are there comfortable products out there (long sleeves and pants) that offer protection and comfort when the sun is out and temps are up? |

Personally, I burn. I know it's not good, but I'm a sadist. |

| i bought the 45spf stuff from gander mtn last year....liked it a lot. make sure you reapply avery 2 hours or so though...sweat ruins any sunscreen that i have used...at least my sweat
i've heard talk of white under armor long sleeve tees doing the trick too...don't know about that though. i got long sleeve tee and baggy shorts most summer days...gets the airflow goin where it counts and keeps the arms and wrists from getting burned.

Location: Chicago, Beverly | No-Ad spf 45 at least... and if any bit of burn treat with some sort of aloe moisture junk... skin cancer sucks, I know several who have had it now.. so trying hard not to join that group..... If you grab a cabelas or BPS saltwater catalog there are some long sleave shirts that thsoe guys use that look like they might work in hotter weather.. very breathable.. could possibly be the columbia stuff others mention above... also have heard good stuff about both Blue Lizrad sunscreen and Bullfrog....but have yet to try myself

Location: Lino Lakes, MN | I bought a few of the Under Armour long sleeve heat gear shirts. They are plenty breathable and if you buy lighter colors you wont roast in the sun. If I know that I am going to be on the water for many hours in a bright sun I also use the sunscreen that is used to protect tattoos. I think you should be able to find it at most any tattoo parlor. |

Location: Northern Illinois | I just completed my student teaching experience and I'm out in the sun all day (physical education) and have to second the Under Armor. I have the Nike Dri-Fit which is the same stuff but both are awesome! They are pricey but are well worth it. Light Weight, Breathable, and it keeps you from sweating a ton! Stay with the light colors as stated in a previous post but dark colors would be great for night! |

| I just got back from St. Lucia, as sun protection in the Southern Caribbean I used Banana Boat SPF 45, Got a great Tan and no Burn at all while others looked like Lobsters and had to pay a Visit to the Resort Doctor for help.
No matter what you do be sure to use some sort of sun screen and remember you can also get burned sitting in the shade
Don't forget protection for your eye's as well, just because your sun glasses are polarized does not mean they block UV A & B Rays

sounds like a very good reason to go with a quality brand then... both Costa Del mar and Ocean waves say they block uva and uvb
here is some info from Costa Del mar on the subject:
UV is divided into 3 segments based primarily on their photobiological action.
- UVA (320-400nm) is of particular concern to eyecare professionals, because it can easily damage the retina of the human eye.
- UVB (286-320nm) is of the greatest concern, because it is associated with the production of cataracts.
- UVC (below 286nm) is effectively filtered by the earth's ozone layer and does not reach the earth's surface.
• Costa Del Mar® lenses filter out 100% of dangerous ultraviolet rays through at least 400nm. By blocking 100% UVA and 100% UVB, Costa Del Mar sunproof lenses exceed FDA and ANSI Z80.3 standards for special purpose sun protective eyewear as well as the European and British standards BS2724.
• Unlike a typical sun lens that is simply coated with a UV bath, Costa Del Mar Lenses have the UV filter integrated into the lens when it is made. This insures that the UV protection will never rub off, fade or be rendered ineffective by scratches and abrasions.
and some info from Ocean waves: Our sunglasses offer a 100% U.V. protection:
-The unique construction of our lens blocks all the U.V. light up to 420 manometers. We offer you the best U.V. protection on the market.
What are the benefits?
-Wearing Ocean Waves sunglasses with 100% U.V. protection can prevent eye fatigue and squinting which results in crow’s feet as well as headache and macular degeneration
