I'm somewhat of a novice with Musky fishing and was wondering if anyone could help me with what kind of leaders to use for different situations (ie bucktails vs jerkbaits, mono vs wire, single strand vs multiple strand).

I pretty much stick to a single strand wire for almost all purposes, just upping the gauge for more or less sturdiness. Heavy jerks or cranks I will go with a 150lb wire, smaller stuff like minnows and twitchers Ill go to a lighter 90lb wire. For jigs, Ill go as light as 65lb, but for bigger plastics back to heavier stuff.
I don't have too much experience with mono\\flouro so I won't go there but for most situations its hard to beat a stiffer leader, You just have to try a few things out and see what you like, there is a reason there are 3000 different leaders\ snaps\swivels everyone wants something different.
Or you could be like my boss, NO LEADER, and he catches some big fish, never lost one yet. use your own discretion.

Lots of variation in how folks approach leaders. I'm a flouro guy for almost all presentations because....

1) I seem to get more action on the clear water and high pressure lakes I fish
2) Flouro doesn't kink and so that means LOTS less downtime in the boat (downtime = replacing any leader the gets kinked/bent while fishing)
3) Fouro gives me better "death wobble" on my suicks and I get more "flutter" on twitchs

I use straight wire for gliders, mostly 174#.

I use light (60#) braided wire for jig/creatures and sucker rigs.

Easy to make your own leaders, any kind, check out Rollie and Helen's for kits and supplies.
