Location: Maribel WI | Ive been fishing a few weedy lakes that at times get churned up due to boat traffic, which leave large amounts of floating weeds. Wondering if anyone else has found a few lures that get through the weeds better than others - besides lures like the Sloppy pig or Top Prop. In my experience, for some reason the Pacemaker does well and so does the Doc, or almost any of the walk-the-dog lures. |

| L.O.W riders work fairly well for chopped up 'floaters'...the first blade grabs the weed but the rear blade most times keeps spinning |

Location: Verona, WI | I am going to try a few more buzz baits this year to combat that problem in Madison. The Boogerman looks like an option. Moore's Lures also has a buzzbait/weedless spoon combo that I am try.

Shane I tried the buzzbait thing in '04....threw it a lot (mainly on Monona)...it can go through anything, only problem was that I never had any action on it. Let me know if you have any success on it. My Top Raider gets hung up once in awhile but the fish like it. |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | If its really thick, I have run my Top Raiders without the belly hook. Makes it just a bit more weedless, and almost all of my fish are hooked on the rear hook anyway.
It may result in a few misses, but those are probably fish you couldn't have presented this bait to with the belly hook attached anyway. |

A thing that I did to catch some of those weeds was I used a longer leader like 18", took a 3/0 single treble hook, and cut off the barb. I then attached the hook with a split ring to my swivel and it served as a weed catcher that kept the lure from fouling. Works on smaller weeds - nothing will get through some of the weed beds on Monona.
I have also removed the belly hook which minimizes weeds and allows you to fish a topwater in really shallow water. I got a 41" in Wingra last year on a AHL Turbo in under a foot of water.

| For the really heavy/nasty stuff, Renosky has come out with their Turbo Frog and Sizmic has their Magnum Toad. Both are giant weedless bass frogs. Single spin Rad Dogs and Boogerman Buzzers work great in not-so-nasty conditions.

Location: minocqua, wi. | i'm chuckin' that frog Brett mentions for exactly these reasons ... the below surface bait i'm throwing under similar circumstances is the weed warrior by ducktail lures ... when the chop and slop is at it's worst, both baits are fishable and catch fish. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | If you use a topraider with the belly hook off, change the rear hook to a 7/0 size to increase hook ups. I do this on all my topraiders if the belly hook is on or off.. |

Location: Des Moines IA | Another vote for the weed warrior. Very weed resistant chop bait ... Great action too ......
