What are some creative and effective ways you guys have figured out to catch those toothy critters that are holed up in the heaviest of slop? Not the kind of stuff with pockets you can pitch a bait into, but the stuff that looks like outdoor patio carpet? Texas rigged slugo, finess fish, or reaper with a rattle pushed in the head are my ideas.

I have used a Sloppie pig in the stuff...and moved fish. Saw Bob catch then on TV with one doing that..[]

I usually use the Dupont Spinner but unfortunately they are tough to release after using it. Plus, it can sometimes be kinda noisy and the people around the lake don't appreciate it.he,he,he
On the serious side, I'm not a huge fan of working the slop, but I know it's a great technique to pull the slobs out of the jungle in Canada. The grinding technique that Dick Pearson and Douge Stange talked about in the latest In-Fisherman article would be a great way to target those fish. Toss a heavy spinnerbait (1 1/2 to 2 oz) into the crap and start winching it in. I also think that Sledges would be an awesome bait also working throw the stuff. It pops around like a freakin bobber by jumping straight up. I've tossed Bobbies and Suicks in heavy reeds and they are surprisingly weedless if worked patiently and methodically. Use your rod to steer the bait around obstacles. Finally the Boogerman buzzbait is also a crowd pleaser. It's like and oversize bass bait that will be churning the crud into tapioca pudding..

catch ya later,
Krappie

Big Johnson Spoon with a twister tail can work, it kind of skitters on top and will drop down, too.

My vote goes to the Slopee Pig. Not much action in the open but it does shine in the slop. Short twitches, let them find it and come to it.

I have used the largest Johnson silver minnow tipped with an 8" reaper tail, and have moved quite a few fish. Haven't hooked one yet doing it. Like Krappie said, use very heavy spinnerbaits and grind them through. I believe this is an untapped fishery, and I am going to be doing it more this year.
