So those of you that run snap weights while trolling. Do you just clip them on with say an OR-16 release, or will those fall off if a fish is fighting? I've been wanting to experiment with these and that's the only question that's keeping me from doing it so far.

I've used them for both Walleye and Musky Joel. The Snap Weight kit that Offshore sells comes standard with 4 OR-16's. That release holds the weights pretty dam good. Like the boards, you can wrap a loop through the release if you have problems.

Thanks John, what about using heavier weights? Like 8-10 ozs?

Never went further than about 2oz for cranks. I do know guys who've made thier own out of piano weights, they use them for suckers...like a big huge bottom bouncer.

Do you have an email for S&M Joel?....Im trying to come up with a new logo for them and want to send an idea.

Send it to me GMG.

Steve Miljat is also working on a new logo for them, it should be done very soon. I just got back from there shop. Mike and Steve don't have computers and no one can e-mail them dirrect. I just got done rippin on the both of them for that. BUT, they were hard at work knocking out baits.....................

Joel, I was going to post a thread for Bryan Settele. He just go me my set of his product.

It consists of 1, 1-1/2, 2, 3, and 4 oz weights. The design Bryan made to hold the weight is great. It's so easy to remove as the weight nears the rod. Use a Larkhead Knot and its locked down on the line where you want the weight. It will not slip at all, even super braid lines.

Settele Trolling Systems 414-990-8150. Bryan Settele is the guy, tell him I sent you.

I will be running this product this season. Short lines always seem to score more fish. This will allow me to shorten up some lines even more.

10 weights and 4 clips for under $20.00 I believe. Smokey's Muskie Shop will also have them soon.

Last Fall I trolled the XXX using cannonball weights from 6 to 10 ounces. I simply put a staylok snap on them and clipped it to the swivel on my leader. that gave me 4 feet from weight to bait. I wasnt using boards, but I dont see why that would change things that much.
