OK looking for a little help here...I'm no wizard at this stuff..but here is the problem.
I just rigged up a new 102c on my bow, on a new Minn Kota 80 lb autopilot w/ univ. sonar.
when I step on the power for the trolling motor, I get black vertical lines on my 102c ...If I stay on the motor for a while they seem to go away but they are annoying. I believe my 102c is powered by my starting battery and my trolling motor has 2 seperate batteries. The power wires to both seem to be far enough apart. I saw a post there is something I can get from radio shack called a "noise filter"? any idea's if that would help or any ideas in general. I had a Lowrance X 65 on my last boat with the same setup and it never gave me any interference or issues like this. Any tips/suggestions/help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Make sure you are running the 102c off the starting battery and not one of the trolling motor batteries. I had that problem on my old boat with a Garmin 240 and my Minnkota. When I put the Garmin on a different battery the problem disappeared. Good luck.

I have the same problem with an X85 and I'm positive it's not hooked up to the trolling motor batteries. If I had a suggestion I'd give it, but I'm looking for one too.

1. make sure DF is powered off of starting battery.
2. conntect ground of trolling motor battery and starting battery with light 18 gague wire with inline 2 amp fuse
3. seperate power leads for trolling motor and DF as much as possible
4. ***have Minnkota or Service center ground the brush plate, new models have this done from the factory***

I guess Minn Kota has a fix for this...you can call them and they will send you a black wire with inline fuse and this goes from the starting battery to the negative of the TM battery...not sure how that fixes it but.....I guess it gives a "common ground" ...I called them and they are sending me this wire and said this "should" fix the interference problem...I'll believe it when I see it...
Thanks for all the PM's and info...I'll report back if this fix works...or not...

I have the same problem "once in awhile" with my maxxum 101 and vexilar. I guesss I will call MinnKota as well for that little black wire and see if that solves it. Jason Bovee

I have not seen the black wire fix the interfernce in the past. Minnkota should have grounded the motor case when they built these units. They are now. They just do not want to pay to have the motor disassmbled and grounded properly. I would just send in your motor now, or find your local Service Center and get that done before the season gets rocking.

it is a brand new motor...just got it from MK about a week ago...so shouldn't it have had that grounding done to it?

They should be able to tell by the serial number.
